Cultivation is just so scientific! - Chapter 500: 296: False Infant_2
Chapter 500: Chapter 296: False Infant_2
For the “Red Infant Ginseng Fruit”, Supervisor Feng Yi had paid far too much.
After consuming the “Red Infant Ginseng Fruit,” he would be able to live several more decades, which would give him time to seek other Spiritual Objects that could prolong life.
At Supervisor Feng Yi’s level, immortality had become a luxury, but he absolutely did not want to die. Even if there was a mere sliver of hope, he would fight with all he had to grasp it.
The False Infant channeled a strand of Spiritual Power, and the Array Breaking Talisman emitted a soft glow, landing on the Sect Formation’s defensive shield.
The Array Breaking Talisman transformed into a circle composed of countless Array Formation Patterns. These patterns linked up with those on the Sect Formation’s defensive shield without triggering any fluctuations in the Formation.
In the center of the circle created by the Array Breaking Talisman, a small opening appeared where there was no Sect Formation defensive shield.
Without the slightest hesitation, the False Infant passed through the opening and entered the interior of Fire Cloud Valley.
The False Infant waved a small hand toward the location of the Array Breaking Talisman, causing the circular form to hide itself.
This Array Breaking Talisman could last for the duration of thirty minutes, giving him thirty minutes to enter Fire Cloud Valley and find Li Shiming.
The False Infant looked towards the unobstructed view of Fire Cloud Valley, his little face filled with a ferocious expression.
This time he had come not just for the “Red Infant Ginseng Fruit” but also for revenge for Fang Lu’s death.
Since he had sent Fang Lu to retrieve the “Red Infant Ginseng Fruit,” it showed his trust in her, which is extremely rare in the Cultivation World.
Trust between cultivators is very hard to come by, with each party filled with schemes.
Fang Lu was his subordinate, as well as his Daoist couple, his lover, a spy he had planted in the Yin Yang Sect years ago.
Fang Lu did some work for the Skywalk Trading Company in the Yin Yang Sect and exposed some flaws, which led to her partial separation from the Yin Yang Sect and her return to his side, where she earned his trust.
Every time he thought of Fang Lu’s death, Supervisor Feng Yi could not contain his rage.
On the False Infant’s tiny face, the anger made him look not the least bit frightening, but rather somewhat cute.
Clearly, Supervisor Feng Yi was very well informed about Li Shiming, and the False Infant headed straight for the cave dwelling prepared for Li Shiming in Fire Cloud Valley.
Of course, Li Shiming was not in the cave dwelling; he was in a Formation, wearing an eyepatch and observing something.
In the sky at different altitudes, two drones were suspended, monitoring everything below.
One drone at an altitude of ten thousand meters used its low-light camera to monitor a range of a thousand li.
At a thousand meters, another drone had multiple functions activated on its camera, keeping an eye on the outside of Fire Cloud Valley.
When Supervisor Feng Yi arrived thirty li outside of Fire Cloud Valley, he was detected by the drones.
Although Supervisor Feng Yi used some Secret Technique to hide his presence, he didn’t hide his body heat.
It wasn’t that there were no means to hide one’s body heat, but few cultivators chose to do so, or perhaps they didn’t think to hide their body heat.
That’s because Formations cannot detect body heat; they sense the presence of cultivators.
Of course, for a cultivator to hide their body heat is quite easy—a simple low-level ice attribute Spell would suffice.
But obviously, like most cultivators, Supervisor Feng Yi had not considered the possibility of body heat revealing his position and had absolute confidence in his Secret Technique.
Li Shiming observed the position where Supervisor Feng Yi vanished. Using the surveillance of the two drones, he did not detect Supervisor Feng Yi’s figure elsewhere and deduced that he must have used some Formation to conceal himself.
He too had patience, and he had the two drones keep watch over that position, waiting for Supervisor Feng Yi to reappear.
Yet, he had not detected the presence of Supervisor Feng Yi’s False Infant. The drones, especially the one a kilometer away, which wielded various functions including infrared and low-light imaging, were unable to observe the inch-small False Infant that emitted no heat whatsoever.
Therefore, when Supervisor Feng Yi entered Fire Cloud Valley, Li Shiming remained unaware of the enemy’s presence.
The movement speed of the False Infant was extremely fast, a point one could imagine since it was entirely composed of energy, and not a physical entity.
Thus, in movement, the False Infant did not need to consider the restrictions of a physical body; it could also utilize flying secret techniques, reaching multiples of the theoretical speed when using such methods.
The False Infant floated through the darkness like a ghost, deftly evading the valley’s array surveillance, and arrived outside Li Shiming’s cave dwelling.
Elder Zhao was sitting not far from the cave dwelling, his Divine Thought constantly active, guarding the entrance.
Today was the last day; tomorrow morning, all the Alchemists participating in the grand event would bid farewell to the three Alchemy Masters. This ceremony was to thank the three Alchemy Masters for their assistance over the past three days, after which Li Shiming would be able to return to the Sect.
Elder Zhao, in his Golden Core Stage, would not be troubled by a lack of sleep for an entire year; to ensure Li Shiming’s safety, he had ceased his own cultivation.
The previous attack by Fang Lu had caused him to lose face; he could not allow Li Shiming to be endangered again.
But even he did not know that Li Shiming’s figure was not in the cave dwelling; to keep Elder Zhao from discovering, Li Shiming had left ahead of time right after the day’s festivity had ended, actually hiding in a distant location.
Elder Zhao suddenly sensed danger. His Lifebound Flying Sword had just barely stirred from within his Golden Core when he felt his body stiffen and he collapsed.
The False Infant appeared from behind Elder Zhao, not killing him. It recognized Elder Zhao and, although killing one more Elder Zhao, in addition to Li Shiming, wouldn’t be significant, it had other thoughts, other ways to avenge Fang Lu.
If it controlled Li Shiming, making him obedient, then Li Shiming’s life and death would be in its hands. After exploiting Li Shiming’s value, it could take his life or torture him to death.
Before making a final decision, Supervisor Feng Yi did not wish to kill Elder Zhao; killing the Elder would almost certainly guarantee a deadly feud with Shushan Sect, leaving no room for negotiation.
The False Infant stood outside the cave dwelling, where to it, the dwelling’s formation was almost akin to nothingness.
It stretched out its small hand, and with a light grasp, the dwelling’s Formation was shattered without even a warning signal, broken by fearsome force.
At all the formation nodes inside the dwelling, the Spiritual Objects that served as formation flags turned to powder. The False Infant’s strength was simply too great, and with one blow, the formation was destroyed from the inside out.
The False Infant looked satisfied with its own work as it floated into the dwelling.
Not sensing Li Shiming’s presence, it heard a faint burning sound.
Though the sound was extremely faint, to the False Infant’s keen senses, it was as loud as thunder.
Without the fluctuations of Spiritual Power, without a sense of danger, even upon hearing the burning sound, the False Infant had not the slightest intention to evade.
Cultivators are dismissive of mortal objects, never believing such things could harm them.
Yet, the False Infant’s gaze fell upon a curious object above, a small cylindrical item encased in a mundane metal shell; the front was a meticulously polished piece of crystal glass, looking incredibly intricate.
With a beckoning gesture, the mundane object flew into its small hand; it observed the object closely, intrigued.
After a while, it applied a bit of force, and the object fell apart, revealing an even more curious interior.
The False Infant looked around but could not discern anything particularly special about the object; it was merely somewhat peculiar.
“So, why isn’t Li Shiming here?” the False Infant, Supervisor Feng Yi’s agent, murmured to itself.
Having gone to great lengths to infiltrate Fire Cloud Valley, one would expect a foolproof plan, only to find the dwelling empty and Li Shiming nowhere in sight.
Supervisor Feng Yi thought of Elder Zhao outside; the False Infant was about to turn back to interrogate Elder Zhao, when at that moment, a red light flashed simultaneously at his feet and on the walls around him.
Suddenly, with a thunderous boom, the high explosives placed all around the dwelling detonated. Without the protection of the defensive array, the dwelling’s interior was first swept by intense heat and shockwaves. Then unable to withstand the explosion, the blast wave broke through the dwelling’s entrance and rushed outward.
