Chapter 725: A Lake

For Max, though, leading them through this deadly labyrinth was almost effortless. His Three Dimensional Body was fully active, an unseen web of perception reaching out in every direction like invisible radar, painting a vivid map in his mind of every rock, every shifting storm cloud, every creature lurking behind jagged ridges of scorched stone or hidden beneath ash-choked foliage.

His eyes seemed distant, yet they glimmered with constant calculation as he steered the group away from hidden threats long before they could materialize into danger.

When his senses picked up monstrous auras—beasts whose power peaked at the very top of the Champion Rank or who radiated terrifying fluctuations in their cores—he simply veered their path without a word, guiding the team along alternate routes that might wind longer through the terrain but kept them safe from battles they couldn’t hope to win.

The group’s journey stretched out like a silent odyssey, hours melting away as Max moved unerringly through the twisted pathways of the Berserk Lightning Region.

Occasionally, smaller Champion Rank beasts would cross their path—some feline predator with pelts flickering like storm clouds, or serpents coiling from fissures in the earth spitting arcs of charged venom—but Max barely spared them a glance.

If he deemed them weak enough, he allowed them to remain on their course, giving the other five behind him a chance to act.

It was those five—Arlen, Lena, Varek, Sana, and Kael—who slaughtered those lesser creatures one by one, steel and elements flashing in coordinated bursts, yet even as they fought, their eyes kept flicking toward Max with growing awe and confusion.

They followed him deeper into the region, through black forests alive with sizzling vines, across canyons where lightning waterfalls poured from the sky in endless torrents, through fields where the very ground pulsed with electric life, yet they encountered no catastrophe, no deadly ambushes, no colossal beasts bursting from the shadows.

And the deeper they went, the more it dawned on them how extraordinary it was. They were all experienced fighters, seasoned warriors of the Champion Rank, yet not one of them could sense half of what Max seemed able to perceive.

The terrain was a maze of lethal threats, but somehow, Max guided them like he was walking a familiar street in a quiet city. The five exchanged looks behind his back, their faces a mixture of disbelief and dawning respect.

It wasn’t merely Max’s overwhelming power that shocked them—it was the sheer precision with which he read the land, avoided impossible fights, and allowed only battles they could handle. What he was doing should have been impossible for a single man. Yet he did it without strain, without boasting, as if it was the simplest thing in the world.

And that realization left them stunned and silent, following him like shadows, unable to fully comprehend the depths of the monster who now led them forward into the storm.

Not long after, as they trekked onward through the storm-wracked wilderness, the oppressive tangle of trees finally began to thin, giving way to a region marked by broad, sweeping hills that rolled like frozen ocean waves beneath the searing flashes of lightning in the sky.

The ground here was cracked and blackened, scattered with jagged boulders that gleamed slickly under the constant rainfall, and the air buzzed with a sharper, almost metallic charge.

It was a stark contrast to the dense forest they’d just navigated, and the open space felt almost like stepping into a vast amphitheater beneath the watchful eyes of the storm gods.

But no sooner had they emerged into this new terrain than Max’s entire posture snapped taut. His Three Dimensional Body flared into hyper-awareness, sensing the faint pulse of concentrated lightning energy vibrating through the rocky ground ahead, like the beat of a hidden heart.

“Lightning essence stone!” Max exclaimed suddenly, his voice carrying a sharp edge of urgency and wonder that immediately seized everyone’s attention.

Even before the words had fully left his mouth, his figure blurred into motion, leaving a trail of flickering afterimages in the rain-drenched air as he streaked forward, his cloak snapping around him like a black flame.

The other five stared in stunned silence for a heartbeat, then scrambled after him, their own auras flaring as they raced to catch up, boots pounding across the scorched earth.

They trusted him now—utterly—and even if they hadn’t fully understood what he’d sensed, none of them dared question the monster who had just casually killed a lightning beast king and led them through a region of death without a scratch.

A few minutes later, they crested one last ridge, and there it was before them: a small lake cradled in the hollow of a shallow basin, its surface rippling under the relentless fall of rain. The lake glowed faintly with inner light, as if the water itself was infused with electricity, casting brilliant reflections that shimmered like liquid glass.

And scattered all around the lake’s banks and partially submerged in its shallows were countless small stones, each one flickering and pulsing with vivid purple lightning, like shards of solidified storms. They crackled softly, arcs of energy snapping between them, illuminating the rain like falling spears of amethyst light.

“So many lightning essence stones!” Max breathed, genuine awe flashing across his face, his usual cool composure giving way to naked wonder for a moment. He had only sensed a single lightning essence stone at the edge of his Three Dimensional Body’s range—the one farthest from the lake—and he’d assumed it would be a solitary find, a rare treasure waiting in isolation.

But to find an entire trove, gathered in such quantity that it lit up the entire basin like a violet constellation, shocked even him to the core.

Behind him, the other five stood equally astounded, eyes wide as they gazed at the spectacle. For a moment, the violent world seemed to fade, leaving only the luminous lake and the promise of the power it contained, waiting to be claimed.

Just as Max was about to stride forward toward the shimmering lake to pick up one of the many lightning essence stones, he suddenly felt a firm grip clamp down on his shoulder from behind, halting him mid-step.

He blinked and turned his head sharply, frowning as he found Arlen standing close, his face unusually grim, rain streaking down his hair and sparks of residual lightning flashing across his gauntlets.

“Huh? Arlen, what’s up?” Max asked, a flicker of confusion cutting through his anticipation as he gestured at the sparkling stones scattered around the lake.
