Chapter 731: Hunting

Blake, however, stopped in his tracks and turned on Astor sharply, his eyes narrowing into a stern glare as his voice dropped into a lower, warning tone. “Astor, have you gone mad?” he demanded, his brows furrowed in deep concern.

“This mission is extremely important to Young Master Omar.” He took a deep breath before continuing, his voice firm but edged with urgency. “I’ve heard that Young Master Omar was born with a unique physique—a special constitution that allows him to absorb and accommodate the abilities of certain specific monsters. The whole reason for getting the ten eyes of the Lightning Ten Legs Spider is precisely for that purpose. Don’t even think of doing anything reckless that might cause Young Master Omar any dissatisfaction. If you anger him, it won’t just be you paying the price—it’ll drag the rest of us down with you.”

His words hung heavily in the humid air, each syllable laced with stark warning. Nick, who had been listening quietly from the side, gave a solemn nod, his expression grave as he glanced between his two companions.

He, too, understood all too well the volatile nature of Young Master Omar’s temper—a temper that could turn deadly in an instant if he felt disrespected or betrayed.

“I know,” Astor muttered at last, his voice weighed down by a gloomy resignation, his eyes staring blankly at the forest floor as if he were trying to look straight through the tangled undergrowth beneath his feet. “I’ll just join a different division after this mission.”

The words dripped with bitterness and frustration, as though he’d finally accepted that the constant subservience to Young Master Omar was suffocating him, yet he saw no other choice but to remain within the fold of Thunder Monarch Hall, simply shifting himself to a place where Omar’s shadow might not fall so heavily.

Nick let out a soft snort, his expression twisting into a mask of grim determination as he swept his gaze around the forest once more. “Alright, let’s just find this bastard and hand him over to our Young Master,” he said sharply, his tone edged with impatience as he gestured for the others to spread out further.

The three of them resumed their meticulous search, their sharp eyes darting left and right as they moved cautiously through the dense foliage, every rustle of leaves and snap of a twig making them tense, ready for a fight.

Meanwhile, hidden high above in the dense canopy, Max remained crouched perfectly still on the thick, rough bark of a tree branch, concealed by both his Green Soul’s invisibility and the natural cover of leaves swaying gently in the breeze.

He had heard every word of their conversation as clearly as if they’d been whispering into his ear, and a mischievous glint flickered in his eyes.

’Am I lucky or what?’ he thought with an inner laugh that bubbled up in his chest. Just moments earlier, he’d been wondering how and where he was going to locate the elusive Lightning Ten Legs Spider, and now his enemies had practically dropped the information right into his lap without even realizing it.

A wide, satisfied grin spread across his face, but he quickly sobered, his expression tightening as he focused his senses. Deciding to strike while fortune was smiling on him, Max allowed his figure to shimmer and fade into nothingness, teleporting silently away from his perch.

He moved step by step through space itself, each teleportation carrying him closer to his chosen target: Astor. He was careful not to use conventional movement, knowing that any footfall or rustle of branches might alert Blake, whose assassin-class skills and heightened perception could easily detect the faintest disturbance.

Instead, Max slipped through the fabric of space with precise, measured teleports, his presence as silent and intangible as a breath of wind, closing the distance inch by inch toward Astor, his mind already planning his next move as the forest around them seemed to hold its breath in anticipation.

A moment later, Max emerged from the swirling currents of space, materializing soundlessly just a few steps behind Astor, his presence as silent and cold as the breath of midnight wind rustling through the leaves overhead.

His eyes glinted with lethal focus as he raised his hand, concentrating his formidable soul power into a razor-sharp needle of golden light.

’Soulpierce Ascension!’ Max intoned in his mind, and the golden, needle-shaped soul force shot forward with blinding speed, striking Astor squarely at the back of the head.

In an instant, Astor’s eyes glazed over, his pupils dilating as his entire consciousness went blank, his body freezing mid-step as if someone had flipped a switch and snuffed out the light behind his eyes.

Seizing that brief window, Max’s sword flashed with a blinding silver gleam, slicing through the air so swiftly that it barely made a sound. The blade connected with Astor’s neck in one clean stroke, and a spray of blood burst forth like a crimson fountain as Astor’s head flew clean off his shoulders, tumbling through the air before landing heavily on the forest floor.

’Thud!’ echoed the sound as his headless body toppled sideways, hitting the ground with a lifeless, boneless sprawl, the leaves beneath him quickly darkening as blood pooled into the earth.

At that precise moment, Blake and Nick—who had been searching a short distance away—whirled around, their faces taut and alarmed as they felt the overwhelming pressure of a sword concept surging behind them, a killing intent so sharp it made the air itself feel like knives pressing into their skin.

But it was already far too late. Astor lay headless on the forest floor, his eyes staring blankly from where his severed head rested several paces away, a look of shock still frozen on his lifeless features.

Both Blake and Nick stood rooted to the spot, their expressions slack with disbelief as they stared at their fallen companion, struggling to comprehend how one of Thunder Monarch Hall’s 2-star geniuses could have been slain so effortlessly and without warning.

For several heartbeats, neither man moved, the only sound the distant rumble of thunder and the soft patter of blood dripping onto leaves. But slowly, they regained their composure, hardened instincts kicking in as they scanned the forest around them with eyes sharpened by years of combat.
