Chapter 1332: Chapter 1336: Beating the Mandarin Ducks
If he didn’t come himself, if the man really couldn’t hold it in anymore and had to go to the outhouse, it’s feared that exactly at this time, the adored woman would arrive to find no one waiting on the bridge.
Thus, disheartened and filled with resentment, she would leave, and just like that, a marital connection would be missed!
Zhu Minglang, wearing a floral hat, was waiting right there on the Magpie Stone Bridge.
And sure enough, an elegantly dressed woman hurriedly approached, her gaze piercing through the somewhat desolate night fog to see a man waiting for her on the stone bridge.
A smile graced the elegant woman’s face as she quickened her steps, taking three steps as if they were two.
Carrying a small bag, her initially somewhat flustered expression suggested… she may have sneaked out from home!
It turned out to be an elopement!
Their families on both sides probably didn’t agree, so the two of them arranged to meet here and decide to head off into the distance—a lovely little tale indeed.
Zhu Minglang also realized he was playing a very important role; if he hadn’t just happened to pass by and stand guard for that man, the two might have missed each other for life, and lived with eternal regret…
The woman stepped onto the stone bridge, and as she drew nearer, she joyously looked at Zhu Minglang, almost instinctively calling out, “Xu Lang!”
“Miss, I am not your Xu Lang…” Zhu Minglang smiled and took off his floral hat.
Just as Zhu Minglang was about to explain where her Xu Lang had gone, the Weaver Star Fairy slowly approached, standing silently behind the elegant woman, then shook her head at Zhu Minglang.
What does Sister Weaver shaking her head mean??
Don’t speak??
Before Zhu Minglang could understand, he saw the smile fade from the elegant woman’s face, her disappointed gaze fixating on the floral hat in his hand, as a self-mocking expression formed on her cheeks.
“He asked you to pass a message to me, didn’t he?” The elegant woman, not seeing the man she was fond of waiting here, seemed to suddenly comprehend.
“Yes…” Zhu Minglang wanted to tell the truth, but the Weaver Star Fairy still shook her head and placed a finger on her lips, indicating for Zhu Minglang to keep silent.
“Forget the message, I don’t want to hear it.” The elegant woman was not foolish.
If the person didn’t come, but asked someone else to wait here instead, how could the woman not understand?
The other party actually didn’t have the courage to take action; they were not willing to leave everything behind and elope with her.
“Sister, you’ve left everything behind to come here for the one you love, which already shows your sincerity. As for whether the outcome will be as you wish, you can only leave it to fate… Perhaps the heavens have a better plan for you.” Only then did the Weaver Star come forward, softly consoling the woman.
Upon hearing this consolation, the elegant woman’s sense of loss was not diminished, but at least she wasn’t as bewildered and helpless anymore.
Clearly, the elegant woman also had a resolute heart.
She did not cry, nor did she lament.
She nodded her head, accepting the painful reality that lay before her.
She turned around slowly, and even though she looked somewhat dispirited, she firmly continued on the path she had chosen.
“Miss, do you have any words to pass on to him?” Zhu Minglang asked.
“Tell him, I was here.” After saying that, the woman left with a trace of sadness.
The stone bridge was desolate. After the woman had gone far away, Minglang watched Sister Weaver with puzzlement.
“Do you think Weaver Girl should make every pairing happen?” Weaver Star Fairy countered.
“I just don’t quite understand. It seemed to me that the man cared deeply about this relationship. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have had someone stand in for him here just because he had to leave for a short while.” Minglang voiced his thoughts.
“Is that so? Use your Divine Sense to search for him again and see if he’s still nearby,” Weaver Star Fairy suggested.
Minglang paused.
He immediately used his Divine Sense to search for the courteous man who had gone to the latrine, and quickly discovered that after using the facilities, the man hadn’t returned to the stone bridge.
He had gone far away.
He’d deserted at the critical moment!
But if he intended to flee, why ask someone to hold the flower-laden hat and wait for him here?
Or could it be that the moment he left the latrine, he had a change of heart, realizing he was unwilling to forsake his home for a woman!
In any case, he had run off!
“This man has no backbone or sense of responsibility at all!” Minglang couldn’t help getting a little angry, having thought he was a good man, having expected a delightful little love story…
“There are many such cases. They can be called tragic fates and sorrowful affections. If you had not shown up today, he would have persevered a little longer, and that woman would have met him. Together they would have set off into the distance, but on the journey, the man would not be able to endure hardship or fatigue and would eventually choose to desert. He would leave the woman stranded in a strange town; while searching for him, she would meet with misfortune at the hands of vile men and thereafter live a life of misery,” slowly revealed the Weaver Star Fairy, telling of the two’s eventual fate.
“Then this is not just a tragic fate; it also has caused harm to such a good girl.” Zhu Minglang remarked.
“The old matchmaker is only responsible for tying the red string of fate but cannot make everyone in the world find their destined partners. Countless ill-fated bonds should not exist in the first place. A tragic affection might just cause suffering to ordinary folk, yet in imperial and Gentry families, it could lead to the collapse of mountains and rivers, the downfall of nations, and for cultivators, it breeds Demon Heart, warping their convictions…” explained Weaver Star Fairy.
“I think I’m starting to understand what Master Sister wants me to do,” Zhu Minglang said.
“Mm, you are responsible for severing these tragic fates, commonly known as breaking up the mandarin ducks,” after saying this, the delicate palm of the Weaver Star Fairy suddenly held two vivid paper kites.
One was blue, the other red.
Clearly, they were alive, and not just any Divine Beasts but carried unique markings of light on their bodies.
As Zhu Minglang was still wondering how he had become a deity specializing in breaking up matches, the two young paper-kite-like celestial birds were already fluttering their wings, circling around him.
Interestingly, both paper kites had only one wing each. In their innate attempt to fly, they nearly fell into the water beneath the stone bridge.
As they were about to fall, they embraced each other, forming a complete pair of beautiful wings. Only then were they able to slowly ascend from the water, and they gradually flew up to the stone bridge, soaring above Zhu Minglang.
“I’ve heard you are doing well with Suppressing Beasts. They are Paired Immortals; from now on, you’ll take care of them,” Weaver Star Fairy said.
“Oh, okay.” Zhu Minglang stretched out his hands, allowing the two special little creatures to land in the palm of his hands.
With a place to perch, Winged Blue Immortal and Winged Red Immortal settled respectively in Zhu Minglang’s left and right hand. It seemed as if they preferred to be independent beings when not flying together or facing danger, not too keen on sticking together.
