Godly Revival System: I Buy My Killer's Stats - Chapter 388: A Hero's Dilemma
Chapter 388: A Hero’s Dilemma
The Greenfolk people looked just like normal humans, except for a few distinct features that set them apart.
Their hair resembled moss, vibrant and lush, giving them an ancient, nature-bound aura.
Their eyes were a green colour, which radiated an inner calm that seemed to speak of centuries of patience and wisdom.
Other than that, on their bodies, Ethan noticed that across their skin were faint, leaf-vein-like markings, twisting and curling in elegant patterns.
‘They still didn’t give up and waited for their prophecy to come true.’
Ethan noted how the Greenfolk carried themselves with a quiet dignity despite their plight. Even though their city was crumbling and their hearts must have been burdened with fear, they did not seem broken.
Instead, there was a tranquil strength in their green eyes—a stubborn refusal to yield, no matter how dire their situation seemed, putting hopes on the ‘Prophecy’.
“Let’s go inside and talk.”

Before entering the Greenheart Realm, Ethan had already accepted that he would be the Hero who should save the Greenheart Realm from turning into an Undead Realm.
So, seeing their actions, Ethan nodded his head.
Soon, he entered the Greenfolk’s Stronghold with his spirit pet, followed by the 10 Greenfolk people.
‘Congratulations, Participant. You have finally reached the Greenfolk’s Stronghold….weren’t you just a Level 1 Golden Core Realm Cultivator earlier? How did you reach the Peak Golden Core Realm?’
However, the moment Ethan entered the stronghold, he heard a familiar voice in his head which was shocked by his cultivation.
“Gentle Voice?”
That voice belonged to none other than the [Gentle Voice], and with a slight smile, Ethan replied, “It’s my little secret.”
There was no way he was going to tell about the Godly Revival System.
‘…’
The [Gentle Voice] remained silent for a moment; however, it didn’t think much about it.
Instead, it became excited because the higher the participant’s cultivation, the easier the Inheritance Test would be.
And it hoped that Ethan would complete the test and become the owner of the Mystic Soil Domain to develop it.
‘As long as you are inside the Greenfolk’s Stronghold, I can communicate with you for a few moments.’
Suppressing its excitement, the [Gentle Voice] informed Ethan as it asked, ‘Are you ready for your First Side Quest?’
“Side Quest? Of course, I am ready for it.”
Ethan excitedly nodded his head because with these Side Quests, Ethan believed he could complete his Inheritance Test much faster.
‘Nurture and harvest 10,000 stalks of Emerald Life Grass. I will check on you after you complete this side quest.’
As soon as it finished its words, the [Gentle Voice] no longer spoke, making Ethan shake his head.
On the other hand, the Greenfolk people didn’t think Ethan was sick in the head as they knew that their Hero was talking to the Otherworldly God who sent him to save their realm.
“Tell me everything I need to know about the Greenfolk People and Greenheart Realm,” Ethan said firmly, his eyes steady on the middle-aged Greenfolk man who seemed to be the leader.
“Yes, Hero,” the Greenfolk leader respectfully nodded his head as he first introduced himself, “My name is Neldor, and I am the leader of this last Stronghold. We are the last thousand of our kind—our once-glorious realm has been consumed by the Undead Race’s invasion.”
He briefly explained how the Undead Race invaded suddenly, wounding the Ancient Heartwood Tree with some unknown method and spreading corruption throughout the once-life-filled realm.
The Greenheart Realm, now a shadow of itself, had only ten percent of its life force left.
“The Ancient Heartwood Tree’s lifespan is nearly gone.”
When he spoke about the Ancient Heartwood Tree, Neldor looked at the cracked trunk of the dried tree and said in a low but grim voice, “It has less than ten years left to live, and when it dies, the last sanctuary of the Greenheart Realm will vanish as well.”
Ethan was not surprised to hear that because he had already seen that information with the help of his Special Talent.
“Is there any way to extend its life?”
His [Heaven’s Harvesting] didn’t give information about how to save the tree. So, he wondered whether these Greenfolk people had any solutions.
He might be a hero who came to save this realm; however, he had just learned about the existence of the Ancient Heartwood Tree.
Moreover, Ethan was not embarrassed to ask Neldor about how to save the tree.
“There is one way,” Neldor said quickly, his eyes flickering with a faint hope.
“By burying the Emerald Life Grass near the roots of the Ancient Heartwood Tree. It is only a Rank 3 Spirit Plant, but it is also a sacred plant that carries pure life essence, which can extend the tree’s lifespan.”
‘So, this is why the [Gentle Voice] has bestowed me with Seeds and the Seed Condensation Method for the Emerald Life Grass and now, even the Side Quest.’
Ethan finally understood why the [Gentle Voice] had given him the side quest of nurturing the ten thousand Emerald Life Grass. It was to revive a dying world.
“Emerald Life Grass…with my talent and nurturing techniques, I can easily nurture them in large quantities.”
Although it was good news for Ethan as the Inheritance Test might become easy with it, he didn’t celebrate.
It was because every time he celebrated that the Inheritance Test was going to be a piece of cake, Ethan was encountering some kind of hurdle that made him once again feel the Inheritance Test was not easy.
“However, after the invasion of the Undead Race, all the Spirit Fields in the Greenheart Realm, including in the Stronghold, have turned barren.”
‘T-this…I…really didn’t celebrate this time.’
Hearing Neldor’s words, Ethan was shocked as he was not expecting that.
The Spirit Fields outside the Stronghold—there was nothing to be surprised about them becoming barren lands, as he had first-hand experienced the environment out there.
But the Spirit Fields inside the Stronghold have also turned into barren lands, making Ethan feel like he was being played by the Heavens.
“So, what have you all been doing all these years since the Undead Race invaded?”
He learned from Neldor that it’s been close to five hundred years since the Undead Race invaded the Greenheart Realm. So, Ethan asked Neldor about them in a tone mixed with curiosity and incredulity.
Neldor proudly raised his head, his green eyes shone brightly as he replied, “Hero…we have been praying to the gods because we believed that if we kept our faith alive, the Hero of the prophecy would come to save us, and you are finally here. So, my Greenheart Realm will be saved.”
‘….’
Ethan’s mouth fell open slightly, stunned by the sheer passivity of it.
For so long, he’d thought the Greenfolk were clinging to hope, fighting in whatever way they could.
But now he realized they weren’t fighting at all.
They were just waiting.
‘They’re not brave…they’re just lazy.’
He thought back to the ruins of the realm outside, the twisted dead trees and the choking mist of decay.
All this time, these people, even as they were dying, had done nothing but sit within the walls of the Ancient Heartwood Tree.
The ancient tree, even in its final breaths, was still protecting them—its dying roots still fighting back the death outside.
Yet, rather than fighting alongside it or doing something for it, they simply clung to the faint hope that someone else would come and save them, carrying the burden for them.
The respect Ethan had once felt for their supposed resilience crumbled, like the last leaves falling from the dying branches.
