Chapter 1487: Chapter 1487: Hmph, Women

When Julius Reed returned, the Golden Dragon Devours the Sun flag at the entrance of the Young Family’s mansion fluttered majestically in the wind.

As expected, no one dared to come causing trouble.

Smart people have their own flaws.

Once they learned that the Grandmaster was here, all those factions should have rushed over en masse to eliminate their common enemy.

But unfortunately, everyone cherished their own feathers too much.

They all wanted to sit on the mountain and watch the tigers fight.

As a result, if all the factions opposing the Grandmaster united, Julius Reed would have surely been forced into a passive position.

But now, all the opponents chose to sit back and watch.

Without a reckless fool to break the deadlock, this impasse would remain unbroken.

“No one came?” Julius Reed pushed the door open and strode straight into the crystal hall.

Inside, there was a group of martial artists.

The Young Family had concentrated all their forces around the crystal hall as a precaution.

“No one. If anyone did come, it would be you.” Gabriel Young’s face was dark, as if something had deeply unsettled her.

“You’re acting strange.” Julius Reed walked to her side and sat down in a chair.

The Young Family’s martial artists all visibly tensed up.

“What do you mean?” Julius Reed tilted his head back, glancing at the Grandmasters around him, then at Gabriel Young: “Don’t recognize me anymore?”

“The illustrious Grandmaster of the Ten Thousand Mountain Alliance, who wouldn’t recognize him? I’ve heard your name countless times!” Gabriel Young clenched her fists tight, her tone laced with sharp sarcasm.

“Oh, so you’ve figured it out.” Julius Reed didn’t seem surprised.

The moment the Golden Dragon Devours the Sun flag was raised, no secret remained a secret anymore.

The Young Family’s intelligence network spanned all of Swimming City—how could such things be hidden from them?

“Mom, you can’t blame Dad for this…” Ambrose Young tried to mediate from the side.

If they could latch onto this big shot’s thigh, wouldn’t that mean strutting around like a king afterward?

“Shut up!” Gabriel Young rarely raised her voice, but now she snapped, “Adults are talking—what business does a child have butting in?”

“Can I butt in?” Julius Reed pointed toward Gabriel Young’s fiery red lips, “I’m giving you this chance—just this once.”

“Go ahead!” Gabriel Young said irritably.

“Good.” Julius Reed crossed one leg over the other and grinned, “Don’t you feel betrayed?”

“No kidding!” Gabriel Young’s brows shot up in frustration, clearly annoyed. “An inspector of the Ten Thousand Mountain Alliance, the Royal Treasury Envoy—very impressive! Who would have thought you’d turn out to be the Grandmaster of the Ten Thousand Mountain Alliance!”

“Correct.” Julius Reed nodded approvingly, “You’re the first person today not to address me as the [former] Grandmaster. But let me tell you, all those who dared call me [former] Grandmaster—I killed them. The ones who survived are either crippled or worse.”

“Are you threatening me?” Gabriel Young grew angrier the more she thought about it!

She’d poured out the Young Family’s deepest secrets to him, even let him grope her chest—and this was what she got in return?

What a bastard!

“I treated you with honesty, and you deceived me over and over! I can’t believe I’ve been backing you while counting the money you’ll use to betray me!”

Gabriel Young was heartbroken!

“Whether I’m the Royal Treasury Envoy, the Ten Thousand Mountain Alliance’s inspector, or the Grandmaster, does it make any difference to you?” Julius Reed smoothed the wrinkles on his pants. “I’m still me. Remember, back in the outskirts of Swimming City, I told you something? To me, identity is meaningless. Whether you are—or aren’t—the lady of the Young Family, you’re still Gabriel Young, still the white moonlight in my heart.”

“Of course, my heart only knows daylight, no night. So, I’m destined never to see moonlight. Quella Radcliffe and Nangong are the suns of my heart, and you mean nothing.” This last thought, Julius Reed kept to himself, unwilling to voice aloud.

“Really?” Gabriel Young bit her lip tightly, struggling to suppress her smile!

Dignity!

She had to maintain a dignified front!

All her anger and resentment evaporated in an instant.

“What I said wasn’t true? Whether I am or am not the Grandmaster of the Ten Thousand Mountain Alliance—does it really matter to either of us?”

Julius Reed picked up a teacup, just as he was about to take a sip.

“It’s cold.” Gabriel Young retrieved a teapot from under the table and poured tea into another cup: “Drink this. I’ve been keeping it warm just for you.”

“Thank you. You’re like this tea—refreshingly unique, subtly sweet. There’s a touch of elegance behind your aloof demeanor.” Julius Reed lifted the cup, peering into the ‘green tea’ inside.

This change of heart—it was quicker than flipping a book.

Of course, ‘green tea’ wasn’t an insult. After all, what man wouldn’t appreciate green tea?

“Wait!” Gabriel Young stopped him again, pulling out yet another teapot from under the table. “The earlier tea was poisoned. Drink this—there’s no poison in it.”

Julius Reed was dumbfounded!

“Poisoned?” Naturally, he wasn’t afraid of poison, as long as it wasn’t some sort of…shall we say, arousing substance.

After what happened with Nangong, he was truly wary of being drugged again.

“You deceive me and won’t even let me poison you?” Gabriel Young huffed, reverting to her little-lady temper. “But it seems you’ve been quite honest with me. Now, I believe you must have had no other choice.”

“Of course!” Julius Reed picked up the third cup of tea and sniffed lightly.

Luckily, it seemed fine.

“I’m a man of pride—I can’t stand to see a woman burdened with pressure. I didn’t tell you my identity because I wanted to bear everything alone. With me here, you should live a lighter life.” Julius Reed had no choice but to say what she wanted to hear. After all, to enter the ancient tomb of the Azure Emperor, he still needed Gabriel Young’s help.

And of course, he planned to repay Ilario Young’s matter in full.

Julius Reed didn’t like owing anyone.

“Wait!”

Gabriel Young’s resentment finally faded, replaced by a touch of budding affection.

How many years had it been?

On the surface, she had it all. But behind the scenes, she bore all of the Young Family’s burdens alone. Wasn’t she exhausted?

Exhausted!

Yet there was no one she could confide in!

No one she could rely on!

She was the final pillar of the Young Family!

In just a short time, this man had given her an unprecedented sense of security.

“That tea had a laxative. This one I just brewed.” Gabriel Young brought out a brand-new teacup and teapot, filling it for Julius Reed. “You shouldn’t act like this. Whatever it is, we’ll face it together.”

This tea—Julius Reed no longer wanted to drink it.

The tea wasn’t bitter, but his heart was.

Women—they were terrifying!

“What’s the plan now? Are we just going to sit here and wait to die?” Gabriel Young’s heart sank again.

“As I said earlier, if Ilario Young wants to accomplish his goals, he must gain power. Partnering with Hagan Marsh is a way to leverage forces. And in Swimming City, gaining power means dealing with the City Lord’s Mansion.”

Julius Reed spoke confidently, “The City Lord is definitely their target.”

“You… do you plan to guard the City Lord’s Mansion?” Gabriel Young asked, a bit nervously. “But what if they lure the tiger away from the mountain and attack the Young Family instead? Didn’t you say that a melee among the six families is their best opportunity?”

“I’ll handle it.” Julius Reed had already thought of a solution long ago.

“You’re going to approach the other five families to discuss cooperation? Perhaps that’s the only way to avoid infighting. Otherwise, we’re too passive!” Gabriel Young frowned deeply, her hands unconsciously gripping her silk stockings.

Anxiety. Unease.

“Cooperate?” Julius Reed seemed surprised. “Why cooperate?”

“If we don’t cooperate, isn’t that exactly what Ilario Young wants?” Gabriel Young was also stunned.

Telling the other five families was the best way to prevent conflict.

“I, Julius Reed, never believe in cooperation.” Julius Reed stood, patting the sword at his waist. “Getting the six families to quiet down is actually quite simple. Dead people don’t make noise. The strong act; the weak talk.”

With that, he turned to leave.

“Where are you going?” Gabriel Young called after him.

“To kill.”

Julius Reed swept his sleeves and left.

All matters under heaven—resolved with a single sword.
