Chapter 1493: Chapter 1493: Hidden Weapon

Jacob Weatherby stood at the gates of the Young Family, drenched in sweat.

He had gone all out, bringing along every rare calligraphy scroll, gold, and silver jewelry the Weatherby Family possessed, with the Weatherby Family Descendants kneeling in orderly rows, lifting these treasures high above their heads!

Respect, sincerity, it was all there!

Now, Jacob Weatherby’s only worry was that he might not get to see the Supreme Lord!

The nineteenth concubine, ah…

In truth.

Under normal circumstances, Julius Reed would never see him.

By refusing to meet, he could maintain an air of unpredictability, causing fear in the other four families, leaving them restless, sleepless, consumed with worry and unease!

The kind of enigmatic yet terrifying figure that inspired true dread!

But now.

Julius Reed, eager to escape the battlefield without smoke or fire, had no choice but to grant Jacob Weatherby an audience.

Money is never enough, is it?

What an obnoxious name!

And that was precisely the intention behind the name given by the Weatherby Family.

To show off!

Just like the ever-so-unremarkable Julius Reed.

But Julius Reed found the name utterly foolish.

Of what use was money?

Anything he desired would become his in the next instant.

The strong need not bargain.

The strong only take what is rightfully theirs.

“Jacob Weatherby?”

As Jacob Weatherby knelt on both knees, utterly disregarding his reputation as the Family Head of the Weatherby Family, anxiously waiting with bated breath—

A voice rang out above his head.

“It is I! It is I!”

Jacob Weatherby raised his head, and upon seeing the figure that appeared as god-like as a celestial being, a shiver ran through his heart!

“Jacob Weatherby greets the Supreme Lord!” The elder clasped his fists, hurriedly bowing in reverence.

“You know me?” Julius Reed clasped one hand behind his back while pointing to himself with the other, a faint smile playing on his lips. “What if you’ve mistaken me? How embarrassing would that be?”

“Impossible! Absolutely impossible! In all the world, no one could be as strikingly handsome as you! Even with my blurry vision, my ears ringing, in the haze, I still saw a divine glow! In my ears, I heard the clash of swords and shields! In my nose, I smelled the valor of a hero! Every pore of mine is filled with respect!”

“In all under heaven, who could possess such grandeur but you, my Supreme Lord?”

Jacob Weatherby turned and pointed at the treasure chests held high by the descendants of the Weatherby Family. “Stolen goods returned to their rightful owner!”

“How commendable, stolen goods returned to their rightful owner!” Julius Reed pointed at Jacob Weatherby. “Consider this a reward from me. If that Gino Cook had even a tenth of your wisdom, he wouldn’t have ended up in pieces!”

Thud!

Jacob Weatherby’s heart thudded violently!

As expected.

It was indeed this man before him who had killed Gino Cook!

And torn him apart, no less?

Rumor had it that Gino Cook was formidable and had even mastered the “Lightning Sword Method,” yet he had been utterly defeated!

The man before him was terrifyingly powerful!

Time to grovel!

“Supreme Lord, I have an ancestral heirloom I wish to present for your appraisal!” Jacob Weatherby’s eyes flickered with cunning as he immediately thought of a perfect excuse to offer the treasure.

This concerned his family’s survival—not to mention his nineteenth concubine—there was no room for carelessness.

“An ancestral heirloom?”

Julius Reed, contemplating how to avoid the noxious tug of war between the two women in Crystal Hall, couldn’t help but reconsider. The old man before him seemed promising.

Someone so shrewd wouldn’t offer something ordinary.

“Please, have a look!” Jacob Weatherby turned to the car, cautiously removing a brocade box.

Then, with utmost reverence, he presented it to Julius Reed.

“What is it?” Julius Reed wasn’t worried about traps or hidden weapons.

When he lifted the lid, his pupils constricted!

The Nine Heavens Thorn!

The prized treasure of Micah Will!

The Nine Heavens Thorn was divided into Yin and Yang—he held the Yin half in his hand, and now this half before him was the Yang!

Upon it was inscribed the character for “Sun.”

“Where did you get this?”

Clap!

Julius Reed snapped the lid shut, taking possession of it.

“A woman… dressed in red.” Seeing the Supreme Lord accept it, Jacob Weatherby’s tense heart finally relaxed a little.

“She wore a cape with a phoenix embroidered on it. As for the rest, I know nothing more.”

Having said that, Jacob Weatherby lowered his head.

“Very well, you may leave.” Julius Reed, regaining his aloof demeanor, waved his hand dismissively. “As long as the Weatherby Family remains loyal to the Young Family, you’ll have nothing to fear. Also, bolster your estate’s defenses—someone is stirring trouble, trying to spark a six-family conflict.”

“Understood! Understood!” Jacob Weatherby nodded and bowed as he returned to his car, swiftly retreating with the Weatherby Family.

Conflict?

Who would dare?

One misstep and they’d lose their lives.

If the Supreme Lord wanted his nineteenth concubine, Jacob Weatherby wouldn’t hesitate to offer her!

But would the Supreme Lord even care, surrounded as he was by a female CEO, a seductive lady, and an intriguing widow?

Returning to the Young Family estate, Julius Reed went directly to his room.

But when he pushed open the door, he froze once again.

The usually elusive Merrill Caldwell was now sitting on his bed.

“When did you get here?” Julius Reed, holding the box in both hands, frowned. “Isn’t this a bit impolite?”

The Young Family estate was heavily guarded, and since Julius Reed frequently resided here, treasures such as the Nine Heavens Thorn were stored in his room.

Of course, the hiding spots were rather obscure, making them hard for most people to find.

But for Merrill Caldwell to intrude into his room twice now—Julius Reed was genuinely angered.

“Ah… West Tower Brother, I… I wanted to find you, but I was afraid you wouldn’t have the time. So I sneaked in here… I promise, I didn’t touch anything!” Wearing a pale yellow dress and her hair slightly tousled, Merrill Caldwell looked especially pitiful, her eyes welling up with tears as she began to weep.

It’s often said that a woman’s tears are the mightiest weapon.

But Merrill Caldwell had met her match.

A steel-hearted man.

“I’m going to sleep. Please leave.” In the past, Julius Reed had placated her out of goodwill, entertained by the Caldwell Family girl who somewhat resembled Sophia Leocadia.

But now it seemed she resembled Nelson a bit more.

Of course, that was in terms of personality.

As for appearance, the difference wasn’t just a little.

“West Tower Brother…”

“Out!”

Julius Reed’s attention was entirely consumed by the Nine Heavens Thorn—he had no patience to entertain idle chatter.

But considering she was just a girl, he softened his tone slightly. “Go wait for me in the Crystal Hall; I’ll come by later.”

“Really?” Merrill Caldwell brightened instantly.

“Yes.” Julius Reed nodded slightly. “We have guests in the household. Inform them that I’ll be resting.”

“Alright!” Merrill Caldwell skipped out of the room, utterly oblivious to the two tigresses waiting for her.

Once Merrill Caldwell had left, Julius Reed jumped, grabbing hold of the ceiling to retrieve a gear hidden within the roof’s paneling.

Snap!

The Yin and Yang halves of the gear clicked together!

Curiously enough, nothing happened.

Fake?

Julius Reed landed on the ground, his gaze fixated on the now-unified Nine Heavens Thorn.

No reaction.

Yet the two halves of the gear fit together perfectly and seamlessly.

It didn’t seem counterfeit.

Or perhaps the Nine Heavens Thorn was simply this mundane?

Meant to be wielded like any ordinary weapon?

If that were the case, why divide it into two halves?

Purely to make it easier to hide?

Ten minutes passed.

The gear still showed no change.

Julius Reed drew a deep breath, feeling somewhat fatigued.

Who had given him the other half of the Nine Heavens Thorn?

And why hadn’t they informed him how to use this hidden weapon?

Frustrated by the lack of progress, his irritation mounted. He resolved to stretch out his hand and exert the force of a Grandmaster to compel it into submission.

The Nine Heavens Thorn lay quietly on the ground.

But all of a sudden!

The Nine Heavens Thorn began to spin!

And the first piece to fly out wasn’t even the Yin-Yang gears!

It was a blade thin as a cicada’s wing!
