Legend of Dragon Son-in-law - Chapter 1512: Meeting
Chapter 1512: Chapter 1512: Meeting
For Swimming City, tonight is destined to be a memorable night.
The power balance that endured for hundreds of years has been completely shattered.
The City Lord has fled, and all the leaders of the Middle Three Road have been killed.
The two remaining power-holders, in a bid to crown the final victor, have begun a frenzy of infighting.
Flames of war engulf the city.
As the two strongest rulers, the forces of Road One and Road Two have battled fiercely for hours, with heavy casualties and no conclusive outcome.
Both sides are evenly matched. To swallow the other whole is exceptionally difficult.
“Commander, someone outside requests an audience.”
Commander Ridge of Road One stood in the monitoring room, observing the frontline battle through Swimming City’s surveillance, when a guard abruptly knocked on the door.
“An audience?”
Commander Ridge turned and looked at the guard at the door. “My mansion is heavily guarded; who could possibly come near?”
“Commander, the individual is highly skilled, but they seem to harbor no hostility. They asked me to relay a message: if you agree, they can help you kill Rhys Cook.”
The guard responded.
“Oh? Now this is interesting. Anyone who can bypass the defenses and reach the gates of my mansion is no ordinary person. Let’s go and see,” Commander Ridge said, a cigar clenched in his teeth, dressed in a flowing blue robe, as he strode toward the door.
Trailing behind him were several Great Grandmasters.
This was Commander Ridge’s confidence.
With these individuals by his side, what kind of waves could a lone man stir?
If Rhys Cook intended to assassinate him in this way, it would be laughably foolish.
But when a cornered dog leaps over a wall, who can say for sure?
At the perimeter of Commander Ridge’s mansion.
Dozens of house servants held concealed weapon containers aimed at a single man.
The man stood with his hands clasped behind his back, a Longsword at his waist.
There was no expression at all on his face.
Dressed in black robes, his long hair was tied back, and his beard neatly trimmed. He looked relatively young.
“So, I hear that this gentleman wishes to help me kill Rhys Cook?”
The mansion door swung open.
Surrounded by a group of Great Grandmasters, Commander Ridge approached the man unhurriedly, holding his cigar in hand.
“And you are…” The man looked over Commander Ridge briefly and spoke, “Commander Ridge?”
“Correct! That’s me,” Commander Ridge nodded and pointed at him. “I’m here now. Say what you need to say quickly.”
“Very well.”
The man nodded and began, “I am the captain of Rhys Cook’s guard. As you know, Rhys Cook only values the sworn brothers he trusts deeply. I possess great skill, yet have no way to demonstrate it. As captain of the guard, I am nothing more than a glorified watchdog.”
“What are you implying?” Commander Ridge narrowed his eyes and tucked the cigar between his lips, taking a deep drag.
“I can help you kill Rhys Cook, but under one condition: I want a substantial fortune. Additionally, I want the area outside the city.” The man replied calmly, “If you aim to unify Swimming City, you would not tolerate a second faction within the city walls. I will leave the city; surely, Commander Ridge, someone like you wouldn’t find value in the meager assets of the old Lower Three Road?”
“You’re clever. I like dealing with smart people. But how can I trust your words? How can I be sure you’re not a plant sent by Rhys Cook to deceive me?” Commander Ridge flicked his cigar to the ground, his sharp gaze piercing the man before him.
He wanted to determine whether the man was lying.
This pair of eyes had scrutinized countless faces, weathered innumerable events. Commander Ridge trusted his instincts; he would not be easily fooled.
“That depends on whether Lord Ridge possesses the nerve for such a gamble!” The man placed his right hand on his waist and instantly drew his sword!
“Protect Lord Ridge!”

Clang!
The Longsword swept across, instantly breaking a Great Grandmaster’s weapon!
The man shifted his position deftly, and the sword sheath shot out like a projectile!
Whoosh!
The foremost Great Grandmaster, unable to dodge in time, hastily placed their blade horizontally in defense!
Crack!
The blade shattered, and the Great Grandmaster was sent flying backward, coughing blood.
Chime!
The Longsword returned to its scabbard.
The man clasped his hands behind his back and looked at Commander Ridge. “What do you think?”
“How dare you attempt to assassinate Commander Ridge! Seize him now!” The injured Great Grandmaster got up awkwardly, ready to act, but was stopped by Commander Ridge.
“Commander!”
The guards pleaded anxiously.
“Don’t worry. Those who aim for great achievements must do so with courage and tolerance. Without such qualities, how can we claim the City Lord’s seat?” Commander Ridge rebuked his men, then looked directly at the man before him. “Speak, your plan.”
“Commander Ridge can arrange a meeting, ostensibly to negotiate a ceasefire. Require both parties to bring ten men to the City Lord’s Mansion. At that moment, I will strike from behind and kill Rhys Cook, while your men cooperatively eliminate Rhys Cook’s subordinates!”
The man spoke calmly, “As captain of the guard, I will certainly accompany Rhys Cook.”
“Excellent!” Commander Ridge turned to signal an older master. “Two hours later, invite Rhys Cook to meet at the City Lord’s Mansion. Remember, each side only brings five men.”
“Only five?” The elder questioned.
“Five! Follow the orders!” Commander Ridge replied firmly, then turned back to the man. “I hope you’re not deceiving me.”
Commander Ridge had five high-level warriors in his retinue, while the rest were less skilled.
If both sides brought only five men, even if this man betrayed him, Ridge would still have a chance to prevail.
“Farewell!”
The man turned and departed.
From start to finish, no one noticed the character “Defeat” engraved on the Longsword at his waist.
“If Rhys Cook agrees to meet, notify him the moment he leads his men into the City Lord’s Mansion—that kid has defected.” Commander Ridge glanced in the direction of the man’s departure, sneering coldly. “Even though I’m not interested in that area outside the city, I certainly don’t make a habit of gifting property to others. Apologies, brother. After you’re dead, I’ll make sure to bury you outside Swimming City. That is, if there’s anything left of your body.”
At the same time.
In the southern part of the city.
At Rhys Cook’s residence.
Devlin sat in a chair, a black mask covering his face, silently smoking a cigarette.
“Commander, a phone call from Commander Ridge!”
Suddenly, the sound of a ringing phone echoed through the office.
“Answer it.” The middle-aged man lounged back, crossing one leg over the other, his fingers incessantly tapping the desk.
He hummed a tune under his breath.
“This is Commander Cook’s mansion.”
“Understood!”
The attendant hung up the phone and approached Rhys Cook.
“Commander Ridge invites you to meet at the City Lord’s Mansion in two hours. Both sides must bring only five men, no additional personnel allowed.”
“Ha ha! Sir, you truly are prescient! The Great Grandmaster I placed by Commander Ridge’s side five years ago has been utterly neglected. Now Commander Ridge will have no choice but to utilize him to make up the numbers!” Rhys Cook stood up excitedly, laughing uncontrollably.
“At that moment, I will personally claim his life!”
“Congratulations, Commander.” Devlin stood up and crushed the cigarette butt underfoot. “I will accompany you, but I request that everyone wear masks. After all, Commander Ridge has seen me before.”
“No problem. If not for you, Sir, my Great Grandmaster placed near Commander Ridge might never have had the chance to act! Once we succeed, I am willing to rule Swimming City alongside you.”
Four against six—the absolute advantage!
“You’re too kind.” Devlin nodded and left the room.
As soon as he exited, Rhys Cook’s expression turned grim.
