Chapter 1516: Chapter 1516: Take Action

“Family Head! The City Lord’s Mansion has already deployed their massive army! What should we do now?”

The Weatherby family.

It should have been a time for peaceful slumber, yet nobody could sleep.

Jacob Weatherby paced back and forth in the lavishly decorated hall, as anxious as an ant on a hot pan.

“Where is Sherwood?!”

He turned to the butler, asking frantically, “Quick, tell the young master to move the money out first! If those bandits storm in, our Weatherby family’s fortune, built over centuries, will be looted clean!”

“The young master is still lying in bed,” the butler said with an embarrassed expression. “He married a new concubine last night and hasn’t gotten up yet.”

“Scoundrel! This lustful fool!” Jacob trembled with rage.

“Men of the Weatherby family are supposed to be righteous and virtuous. I, Jacob Weatherby, have stayed upright and pure, focused only on business. How did I end up with a son so infatuated with women?!”

With these words, he snatched an iron rod leaning against the table and made as if to go beat his worthless son.

“Master, even if the young master wakes up, it won’t help,” the butler said awkwardly. “This Devlin is too cunning—he already sent people to cut off all our escape routes. The city gates are sealed, and every boat at the docks has been driven away. Tell me, with so many treasures in the Weatherby family, where can we possibly move them to?”

“Damn!” Jacob, usually a refined businessman, let out a rare curse. “What kind of bastard is this?! Doesn’t he even know how to leave us some room for negotiation?”

Crash!

As he finished speaking, he struck a vase with the iron rod.

Shards scattered to the floor.

“Master, that vase was worth three hundred million!” the butler exclaimed, his eyes wide and his heart bleeding.

“Three minor goals, no more,” Jacob wagged a dismissive finger. “It’s nothing. Besides, if these things are just going to end up in someone else’s hands, I might as well enjoy smashing them myself!”

Crash!

With these words, he swung the rod again!

All four vases in the room shattered into pieces!

“Aiyo!”

The butler was practically in tears from the pain.

“It’s useless! Keep smashing!” Jacob was panting heavily. Clearly, his aging body couldn’t keep up; he had overexerted himself and was winded.

“I’d rather destroy them all myself than let others take advantage!”

With these words, he swung the rod one more time!

Crash!

A priceless painting hanging on the wall tore apart in an instant.

“Master, you’ve gone mad! That was one of your favorite pieces…” The butler stomped his feet in panic.

“Go! Bring me several barrels of gasoline. Before those thieves break in, I’ll burn this house down myself,” Jacob gasped as he shouted.

“This is serious!” the butler exclaimed, his heart racing. He tried to talk him out of it. “Please calm down! What if Devlin only cares about power? He might not even find our wealth all that appealing.”

“Impossible! The Weatherby family is the richest in Swimming City—besides Lord Ghost Seven, who dares claim to be wealthier than me?!” Jacob waved his hand dismissively and urged, “Now go, fetch the gasoline! I’ll use the wealth my family has built over centuries to light up the skies of Swimming City!”

“Master, you mustn’t!” The butler took a deep breath as though making an important decision. “To tell the truth, Devlin already sent someone to contact me.”

“Oh? And why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

Jacob’s lips curled into a cold smile, though he feigned curiosity as he asked, “What did you hear? Speak, quickly!”

“Mr. Devlin’s men approached me earlier, but since the situation hadn’t been settled, I didn’t report it,” the butler said, looking conflicted, though pretending to act in Jacob’s best interest. “Mr. Devlin said that as long as you take the lead in supporting him and wipe out the Young family, all the gold and treasures will still be yours afterward.”

“Did he really say that?” Jacob’s eyes lit up with delight.

“He did.” The butler nodded.

In truth, Devlin had instructed the butler to take over the family.

After all, as the butler, he knew the Weatherby family’s assets inside out.

How many treasures they had, how much money they possessed, where everything was hidden, and the intricate traps and secret compartments—only the butler had all this knowledge.

Now, watching the treasures being destroyed one by one, the butler couldn’t hold back any longer and finally revealed part of the truth.

“Good! I never thought you would turn traitor!”

Clang!

Jacob struck the floor violently with the iron rod, and immediately two Great Grandmasters walked in through the door.

“Master, what is the meaning of this? I, Santino, have always acted in the best interest of the Weatherby family, without a trace of selfishness!” Santino pleaded, but before he could finish speaking, the two Great Grandmasters subdued him.

“Master! This must be a misunderstanding!” he struggled desperately but to no avail.

Against Great Grandmasters, an ordinary person’s resistance was futile.

“I’ve long known you harbored ill intentions.” Jacob tossed aside the iron rod and sat down at the table, taking a sip of water. “When I smashed the vase, you were visibly more distressed than I was. What does that tell me?”

Without waiting for Santino’s response, Jacob answered his own question, “It tells me you’ve already started thinking of yourself as the master here. But you didn’t notice—those paintings on the wall and the vases I smashed, they were all fakes! Guards, take him out and beat him to death!”

“Master!”

Santino broke out into a cold sweat, crying out in desperation, “Master, you’ve misunderstood…”

Bang!

Jacob swung the iron rod and struck him on the head.

“Take him away!”

Two Grandmasters dragged him out, and just as they left, Sherwood came running in.

“How’s it looking?” Jacob asked.

His son hadn’t been sleeping; he had been out gathering intel.

“Father, the other four families have already decided to pledge loyalty to Devlin. Only our family remains undecided,” Sherwood reported, sweating heavily and visibly nervous. “If we fail to make a decision within the next half hour, Devlin will treat us the same way he treated the Young family.”

He wiped the sweat from his brow, his eyes fixed on his father.

“This is a gamble! We’re betting the lives of our family and our fortune!” Jacob pounded the table with his fist, gritting his teeth. “Inform everyone—we’ll take the Weatherby family’s wealth and head for the Young family’s estate immediately!”

“Father! Are you mad?!”

Sherwood let out a startled cry, “That’s walking straight into death!”

“Do you think Devlin is a kind man? He already bribed the butler, plotting to seize your father’s fortune!” Jacob recalled the Hiddy.

With such a formidable expert on his side, perhaps Devlin wouldn’t have it so easy after all?

“Alright! I’ll follow your orders!” Sherwood hesitated for only a moment before hurrying to make arrangements.

By midnight, the Weatherby family had packed up their wealth.

Everything was ready for escape.

…

Swimming City.

Golden Avenue.

A dense crowd completely blocked the wide street, not leaving an inch of space.

The Grandmasters who had originally guarded this area on behalf of six different factions had dwindled significantly.

Only the Weatherby and Young families remained steadfast in their positions.

But fear was already evident in their eyes.

“Your Excellency, we meet again.” Devlin, mounted on a warhorse, turned to glance at a row of cannons behind him, his lips curling into a cold smile. “I wonder if this time, I’ll finally catch you. If I do, I’ll cleanse your memory completely and turn you into my puppet!”

With these words, he slowly raised his head.

“Cannons! Prepare to fire!”

Behind Devlin, dozens of cannons began to adjust their aim.
