- Chapter 1131 - 1086: Sir Wishes to Save the World
After a moment of contemplation, Li Fan chose not to continue with the charade and nodded, saying, “Indeed. How did you figure it out?”
With a light laugh in his somewhat deep voice, Xu Ke said, “Who else but one who stands against the world would have information about me outside of the Fallen Immortal Realm, in the Xuanhuang World?”
Li Fan was taken aback, “Stand against the world? What do you mean by that?”
Now it was Xu Ke’s turn to be puzzled, “You don’t know what I’m sitting on?”
Li Fan frankly shook his head.
“Then why are you looking for me?” Xu Ke asked, staring intently at Li Fan, his expression inexplicable.
“I seek you out, firstly to help the Empire’s younger generation realize their lifelong wishes.”
“Secondly, to understand the various contingencies left by Mr. Bai. After learning about his actions, I was deeply struck by his righteousness. But since the information I obtained in the Fallen Immortal Realm was incomplete, consisting only of fragmented memories from different periods, it took quite an effort to find your hiding place. I want your help to clear my doubts.” Li Fan said with a bow, earnestly.
Seemingly moved by Li Fan’s attitude towards Mr. Bai, Xu Ke’s expression softened considerably.
“The Empire?” His eyes narrowed as if lost in memories.
“It is the Tao Lineage that you left behind in the fallen world of Chi Jiu,” Li Fan reminded him aloud.
“Ah…” Xu Ke then remembered.
“Little Green, Little Red…” he said, revealing a nostalgic look.
“Both are still alive. However, the Heavenly Mandate Mystic Bird has fallen while searching for traces of you,” Li Fan said as he passed over an item.
It was the last Feather of the Mystic Bird that Little Black had left in the Beast Type World.
Xu Ke took the pitch-black feather, his hands trembling slightly. A flash of sorrow passed through his eyes, and after a long while, he said slowly, “I have failed it.”
“May I keep this?” Xu Ke asked.
“It’s just returning to its original owner. If Little Black knew that the Feather of the Mystic Bird he left behind could finally return to you, he could rest in peace,” Li Fan sighed.
“Thank you,” Xu Ke said fervently as he stored the Feather of the Mystic Bird in his chest.
Absolute silence once again fell on the towering mountain of stone.
At the desolate peak of this world, even the wind seemed to be nonexistent.
Only the eternal Death Silence, which has persisted since time immemorial.
Li Fan was in no hurry, simply accompanying Xu Ke through the solitude of the heavens, patiently waiting.
After a long time, Xu Ke finally spoke again.
Because of the previous series of actions, his attitude towards Li Fan had greatly changed.
“How much do you know by now?” Xu Ke asked.
“Back then you and Little Black went to Nanming Sacred Beast Mountain, which was actually a task entrusted by Mr. Bai to the Beast Taming Sect. That included a series of actions taken to ultimately cultivate a Fissure Whale capable of infinitely replicating and opening up the Void, allowing the Mortals from the Small Worlds displaced by the Immortal-Ordinary Miasma to stay as far away from Xuanhuang as possible.”
“And the so-called Immortal-Ordinary Miasma itself was a product of contravening the natural order by Mr. Bai. Despite being the Great Supreme Lord Xuan Huang, he ultimately ended his own life because of it.”
…
Li Fan uttered his conclusions slowly, word by word, pieced together from his inference based on what he had gathered from the Fallen Immortal Realm, as well as the Real World.
“You do seem to know quite a lot.”
“Much appreciated.”
“In this world, how many still remember Mr. Bai?” Xu Ke actually gave Li Fan a bow to express the respect in his heart.
“But I am plagued with many uncertainties and matters I can’t let go of, and I ask that you, fellow Daoist, to resolve my doubts. Otherwise, I fear I will find no peace, unable to sleep at night,” Li Fan said solemnly.
“As the Great Supreme Lord Xuan Huang, Mr. Bai was the strongest in the Xuanhuang World at the time. Why did he choose to sacrifice himself, using Immortal-Ordinary Miasma to protect mortals?”
“Do you think the Immortal-Ordinary Miasma was useful? If the Xuanhuang World had never seen the birth of Immortal-Ordinary Miasma, how do you think history would have developed?” Xu Ke countered.
Li Fan pondered for a moment before slowly saying, “Without the Immortal-Ordinary Miasma, the tribulation of Incompatible Cultivation would still exist. Ultimately, cultivators would still fall into a dead end of suspicion and slaughter. In this process…”
“When the city gates catch fire, the fish in the moat will suffer too. In a wasteland where immortality is cultivated, could there possibly be refuge for mortals? That one in ten thousand survives would already be lucky. Being infected by the Immortal-Ordinary Miasma and then forced to migrate to the Small World, although many people would die in the process, the outcome is almost negligible compared to what they would face if they stayed in the Xuanhuang World,” Xu Ke added for Li Fan.
Upon hearing this, Li Fan slowly nodded in agreement.
“So, Mr. Bai foresaw the destiny of the Xuanhuang World for the next few thousand years at the onset of the Great Calamity?” Li Fan asked again.
“For Mr. Bai, that was hardly a difficult thing to do,” Xu Ke replied as if it were a matter of course.
“In that case…” Li Fan’s tone and expression suddenly changed.
“The Great Calamity of Incompatible Cultivation was single-handedly caused by the Celestial Dharma Bearer spreading the New Method. If this instigator were slain, returning order from chaos might not be impossible! Why then did Mr. Bai choose retreat over combat?”
“Not even caring for his own life, yet lacking the courage to fight the Law Transmission?” Li Fan’s voice was tinged with heavy resentment.
“Beyond reach is the immortal path, with the Celestial Dharma Bearer standing aloft.” After a moment of silence, Xu Ke sighed slightly and quoted Mr. Bai’s once-voiced sentiment.
He then explained, “Let’s not discuss whether Mr. Bai was a match for the successfully Contrary to Reason Celestial Dharma Bearer at that time.”
“In fact, in Mr. Bai’s deductions, even eliminating the Law Transmission would not have prevented the Xuanhuang World Calamity from descending.”
“Ningyuan City, Underground Secret Chamber; the Beast Type Monsters that are a fusion of man and dog, have you seen them?”
“I have.”
“Those beasts, with the torso of a man and limbs of a dog. Mr. Bai once tried to save their lives. He collected suitable human limbs in the hopes of removing their dog limbs and reattaching the human ones.”
“But since the dog limbs had already become one with their bodies in their everyday lives, all of Mr. Bai’s attempts inevitably failed.”
“Most died outright during the transplant surgeries. And even those that seemed successful usually didn’t survive a month post-operation. They all died tragically due to the rapid loss of vitality.”
“Despite Mr. Bai’s best efforts, the results never changed.”
Xu Ke explained very calmly.
Li Fan was slowly beginning to grasp the meaning.
“Are you suggesting the Xuanhuang World is facing the same situation?”
Xu Ke sighed, “The proverbial spilt water that cannot be put back.”
“The changes imposed on the Xuanhuang World by the Law Transmission have already occurred.”
“The effort required to reverse it, I’m afraid, might be ten times, a hundred times more.”
