Chapter 876: Chapter 663: Black Tie_2

People like this, besides doing a poor job at their work, are always crystal clear about what their boss wants.

Then they inevitably get fired, and only when they leave do they realize their mistakes.

Chen Pingsheng gave his speech—it was a performance that could only be described as decent and standard.

For him, being decent and standard was more than enough.

For example, when someone asked him the significance of donating money?

He said it was about giving back to society, that universities are the best place to cultivate talent, and talent drives future development.

Or, when someone asked him why he had the foresight to invest in Tesla and NVIDIA?

He simply replied that he had worked in the new energy industry himself, was very familiar with it, and clearly understood that AI would become the core technology of the future.

The entire speech was pre-arranged from beginning to end.

Just like all his answers, Chen Pingsheng would never share his true thoughts with outsiders.

He’d only say what most people were inclined to hear.

Groundbreaking opinions, to some extent, are either spoken in moments of despair or crafted deliberately to attract attention.

It was obvious he didn’t need any of that.

All he had to do was conservatively and honestly answer some questions—just like he wouldn’t answer how one could quickly achieve a modest goal.

Because such questions are always dependent on the individual.

For rich kids, they can achieve it effortlessly, while for ordinary people, no matter how many methods they know, achieving even a modest goal can be the ultimate accomplishment of a lifetime.

Since answering such questions was bound to be wrong regardless, it might as well be best to tell people, “Choose your parents wisely.”

These past few days, he’d been giving speeches at universities and appearing on various online public platforms.

Only when this phase passed would he start limiting his visibility in terms of online traffic.

Traffic, for him personally, was utterly meaningless—classic case of more harm than good.

…

Mid-December, a high school in Magic City.

The bell for evening self-study rang, and Chen An’an, clutching two books, was preparing to return to her dorm to do some revision.

Her school’s dorm management wasn’t particularly strict—they were at least allowed to use their phones.

The dorm housed four girls in total, two of whom were local students. Smart? Sure, but not exactly the sharpest.

One of them had gotten herself a boyfriend within days of starting school, claiming it was because the guy looked especially cool playing basketball.

When he walked, he liked to strike a pose, shooting fake hoops every few steps, thinking he was impressively suave.

Every time Chen An’an saw him, it couldn’t be more cringe-inducing.

In high school, students dating wasn’t anything unusual.

Many saw their grades plummet during this stage.

Aside from the girl who was dating, the other two were much more practical, firmly stating they wouldn’t date anyone during high school.

University would be another story, though.

Returning to the dorm, the first thing Chen An’an did was kick off her shoes and lie comfortably on her cozy little bed for a while.

Only when her limbs refused to move anymore would she finally get up to wash her face and brush her teeth in preparation for sleep.

“An’an, can’t you wash your face first before sleeping?”

“Nope, this is what I call sleeping twice—you just don’t understand, huh?”

“Your logic baffles me—I can’t possibly relate. Speaking of baffling, what was up with the teacher today? They spent ages telling us their motivational life stories!”

“Trying to encourage us to study hard, make progress, and become successful bigshots in the future, obviously.”

“If studying hard guaranteed becoming a bigshot, university graduates wouldn’t struggle to find jobs. If suffering could earn money, migrant workers would be the wealthiest group.”

The short-haired non-local girl added, “My brother’s a university graduate, and even he told me this. It’s been nearly half a year since he graduated and he still can’t find a decent job. My mom’s hair is practically turning gray from worry.”

“So, your brother’s having a pretty tough time, huh.”

The other local girl chimed in, “My mom’s already set things up for me—after university, I’ll take over her position in a state-owned enterprise job. All I need to focus on right now is getting into university.”

“And you, An’an? You’ve never talked about your family situation.”

“My family’s just ordinary—nothing worth sharing. I’ve got a younger sister in fifth grade who’s really smart—born gifted, basically. She can sleep through class with sunglasses on and still ace everything. I also have a little brother who’s just five. He’s not very bright, pretty slow, and extremely well-behaved. That’s about it for my family situation.”

“What do your parents do? You’ve never mentioned them before. Among the four of us in the dorm, you’re the most mysterious—everyone else’s matters are crystal clear.”

“Wow… Come look!”

The girl who was dating had been scrolling through TikTok videos and suddenly stopped, calling everyone to have a look.

“This is the big boss of my dad’s company—he’s a truly influential figure! I saw him once from far away before—I wonder if he remembers me.”

“So, this big boss from your dad’s company shows up on TikTok?”

“Outdated much? My dad’s company is huge! This guy is the richest person in Golden Mountain—what’s so odd about him being on TikTok?”

After a pause, the girl asked Chen An’an, “An’an, didn’t you say your family lives in Golden Mountain? You must know him, right? He even shares your last name—are your parents by any chance working in his company?”

Chen An’an glanced at the video. The composed man sitting confidently on stage—wasn’t he her dad?

“Not only do I know him, I’m pretty close to him.”

“Oh, please! My dad makes over a million a year, and even he hasn’t gotten close to this guy. You think you’re tight with him?”
