However, when Lin Shen glanced around, he noticed that the people nearby were still sitting there motionlessly, their expressions wooden, saying nothing, not even twitching.

Lin Shen didn’t have the energy to focus on them anymore, as his eyes fell upon Di Esi, dressed in a bright red robe with a red bridal hat, looking every bit the groom. Beside him was a woman in bridal attire, her head covered with a red veil, being escorted by the matchmaker and the woman who had led them inside earlier.

Lin Shen and Wei Wufu eyed Di Esi with astonishment. Di Esi seemed completely unharmed—walking and moving of his own free will. He had walked in voluntarily, with joy spreading across his face, looking utterly content and full of spring.

“What the hell’s going on? Could it be that Di Esi, that bold and righteous guy, covets the wealth of Immortal-Returning City and has decided to stop striving for greatness?” Lin Shen muttered to himself.

But, thinking deeper, Di Esi didn’t seem like that kind of person at all. He came from an illustrious family and had always lived a life of unfettered luxury. Everything he wanted was handed to him on a silver platter; why would he stoop to becoming a live-in son-in-law for some minor inheritance?

Not to mention, the entire Yin Mountain Star belonged to Lin Shen, and Immortal-Returning City was on this star—a part of Lin Shen’s legacy! If Di Esi had greed in him, shouldn’t he have come to Lin Shen instead?

“Could it be that Yan Li is truly so stunningly beautiful that even Di Esi has fallen prey to mortal desires?” Lin Shen pondered but found it implausible.

Di Esi had seen countless beauties; it wasn’t likely one woman could transform him so thoroughly.

“Old Wei… do you think this person is really Di Esi?” Lin Shen whispered to Wei Wufu.

Wei Wufu replied with a perplexed expression, “He is… yet he isn’t…”

“I’m asking you, not inviting you to question me,” Lin Shen said, exasperated.

“He is… also isn’t…” Wei Wufu repeated.

Lin Shen finally understood Wei Wufu’s cryptic response: This was indeed Di Esi, but something was definitely wrong with him—perhaps he wasn’t acting under his own volition.

“It doesn’t look like he’s being coerced. Could his mind have been manipulated?” Lin Shen stared at Di Esi’s cheerful countenance, feeling this was a likely scenario.

But Lin Shen didn’t know how to break a mind manipulation technique, so he asked Wei Wufu softly, “Do you know how to counter the Mind Confusion Technique?”

Wei Wufu must have found conversing with Lin Shen troublesome, as he opted not to reply verbally, simply nodding his head.

“That’s great! Let’s find an opportunity later and snap Di Esi out of it,” Lin Shen said.

Wei Wufu nodded again but made no immediate moves, perhaps also awaiting the right moment.

Di Esi, glowing with happiness, walked with his bride to the front of the grand hall. Nearby, the wedding officiant began conducting the ceremony in an orderly manner.

Strangely, despite the wedding’s seemingly joyous nature, apart from the lively musical sounds, everyone else maintained a blank, lifeless expression, observing in utter silence.

“First bow to heaven and earth…”

The ceremony reached its peak, but still, nobody reacted. Lin Shen glanced toward Wei Wufu, who remained motionless, prompting Lin Shen to grow impatient.

At this rate, the wedding would soon conclude, with the couple retiring to the bridal chamber. By then, it would be too late. What was Wei Wufu waiting for?

“Second bow to Lord Yan…”

When they completed the second bow, Lin Shen sensed something wasn’t right.

This wedding style bore distinct resemblance to the customs back home, where the three traditional bows were first to heaven and earth, second to the parents, and last to each other as husband and wife.

Bowing to heaven and earth carried the intent of seeking blessings; bowing to parents conveyed gratitude for their upbringing; and the spousal bow represented mutual respect and commitment.

Yet Lin Shen noticed that Yan Li’s parents were absent, and their second bow wasn’t directed toward her parents but at the divine statue within the hall.

While Lin Shen was contemplating this anomaly, a deafening thunderclap erupted beside him, startling him to the core and leaving his eardrums ringing.

“Come…” Wei Wufu summoned the Power of Justice, channeling his voice into force—a righteous roar that could vanquish every trace of evil and corruption.

If Di Esi truly suffered from mind manipulation, this powerful cry ought to clear his head.

As expected, the effect was instantaneous. Not only did the shout leave everyone present dazed, but Di Esi himself turned to look at them, his gaze noticeably clearer.

“Old Wei…” Di Esi addressed Wei Wufu by his nickname.

Lin Shen lit up with hope, believing Di Esi had finally regained his senses. However, what Di Esi said next stunned him.

“What are you doing? The wedding isn’t over yet. Don’t rush; once the ceremony ends, I’ll join you for a drink and catch up.”

Lin Shen and Wei Wufu froze in disbelief. Di Esi didn’t appear to be dazed or manipulated anymore; his logic was sound, his thoughts coherent, and he clearly recognized them.

Die Fast and Die Early stepped to either side of Wei Wufu, placing their hands on his shoulders. To Lin Shen’s shock, they effortlessly pressed Wei Wufu, who had been standing upright, firmly into his seat.

“Guests, please do not disrupt the wedding process. If the appointed auspicious hour is missed, it won’t be good,” the woman cast Lin Shen and Wei Wufu an icy glare.

“We didn’t mean to disrupt the ceremony. It’s just that, according to the customs back home, the second bow ought to honor the parents. Why here do you bow to the divine statue instead?” Lin Shen asked nervously, realizing Die Fast and Die Early had suppressed Wei Wufu completely—a feat ordinarily impossible for Middle Divine Beings to achieve. Their ease in overpowering Wei Wufu suggested they were Upper Divine Beings.

“Lord Yan is considered the parent figure of Immortal-Returning City. Bowing to Lord Yan is akin to bowing to one’s parents,” the woman explained.

“I see. We were unaware. Our apologies,” Lin Shen glanced toward Die Fast and Die Early, hoping they’d release Wei Wufu.

After exchanging looks with the woman on stage, she waved her hand, signaling Die Fast and Die Early to let go of Wei.

The ceremony continued, reaching the spousal bow, followed by preparations to escort the bride to the bridal chamber.

Lin Shen dared not act rashly; to make any moves at this stage might provoke the denizens of Immortal-Returning City, and even Di Esi might oppose them—not to mention the almost insurmountable challenge of extracting Di Esi under such conditions.

He needed to figure out exactly what was happening to Di Esi first.

Fortunately, “sending to the bridal chamber” didn’t imply immediate consummation; rather, it meant the bride would be ushered into the chamber while the groom remained behind for further rituals like toasting guests. This gave Lin Shen hope for an opportunity to speak with Di Esi.

Die Fast and Die Early eased their vigilance as the ceremony concluded and Lin Shen and Wei Wufu refrained from intervening.

At that moment, trays of food and wine were presented by paper men, who swiftly filled the tables with a dazzling array of delicacies.

“Old Wei… do you think Di Esi is too deeply ensnared?” Lin Shen asked Wei Wufu softly.

“Not… ensnared…” Wei Wufu shook his head and replied.

Lin Shen froze briefly, the implication sinking in—Wei Wufu seemed certain Di Esi hadn’t been manipulated. Then why had Di Esi changed so drastically? Could it truly be love at first sight for Yan Li?
