Chapter 1425: 694 National Master Returns (Two Parts) Chapter 1425: 694 National Master Returns (Two Parts) “No.”
Gu Jiao denied.
Mu Qingchen looked at her coldly, trying to detect even the slightest flaw or hint of guilt in her eyes, but to his disappointment, he found none.
If Gu Jiao were to act out a drama of love and hate, she could probably dazzle others with her performance, but when it came to not showing guilt, she was simply being herself.
A flaw?
Impossible.
However, whether Gu Jiao felt guilty or not was one thing; whether Mu Qingchen believed her was another. Mu Qingchen was not as easily fooled as Li Sande, and his thought process had no blind spots that could be easily led astray.
He had his own deductions and would not be influenced by Gu Jiao.
He tightened his grip on the sword hilt, his gaze icy, “You wouldn’t save Nangong Li, your only possible reason for being at the scene was that you killed him!”
After having been classmates with Mu Qingchen for so long, without claiming to know him inside out, he could still tell that Mu Qingchen was not a man who would repay evil with kindness.
Having an old grudge with Nangong Li, how could Mu Qingchen risk being mistaken for an assassin to save him?
Not delivering a finishing blow to Nangong Li was already a kindness on the part of his classmate.
Gu Jiao spread her hands, “If you say so, then let it be.”
Mu Qingchen kept tightening his grip on the sword hilt, his anger seemingly reaching a peak. He couldn’t quite put his finger on what was infuriating him more, whether it was that he had caused trouble in Shengdu and attempted to assassinate a Yan Country general, or whether it was his consistent secrecy, never being honest with Mu Qingchen.
“Who are you, really? What is your purpose in Yan Country?”
Gu Jiao said nothing.
Mu Qingchen grew even angrier. Compared with having a big fight and questioning why Mu Qingchen didn’t trust him, this attitude of not wanting to say anything drove him crazy.
Mu Qingchen gritted his teeth, “Why won’t you speak? Is that your confession?”
Gu Jiao looked at him and replied calmly, “If there’s nothing else, I’m going inside. If you want to fight, let’s pick another day. I don’t want to start a fight at my front door.”
With that, Gu Jiao didn’t even glance at the long sword held at her neck, turned around, and reached out to push the Courtyard door.
Mu Qingchen said in a cold voice, “You stop right there! If you don’t clarify things today, don’t blame me for laying hands on you!”
Gu Jiao ignored him, and the Courtyard door was already pushed open by her.
Seeing Gu Jiao indifferent to his threats and anger, a fire of nameless rage rose in Mu Qingchen’s heart. He swung his long sword towards Gu Jiao’s back.
Gu Jiao didn’t want to fight with Mu Qingchen and merely sidestepped a little.
But Mu Qingchen had definitely set his heart on forcing Gu Jiao to take action, and he quickly delivered a second move.
Just then, a series of urgent footsteps came from within the Courtyard, dashing towards the door.
“Jiaojiao, is that you coming back?”
Creak–
The Courtyard door opened, and the small head of Xiao Jingkong popped out!
Mu Qingchen’s eyes quivered, and he abruptly withdrew his sword!
But there was still a trace of sword energy he couldn’t retract in time.
The door was only ajar, pulling the person out would cause injury; pushing them back in would result in a fall.
In that instant, Gu Jiao moved forward, bent over to shield Xiao Jingkong, blocking the sword energy.
Mu Qingchen had not intended to deliver a fatal blow, and he had already held back most of it. Even so, Gu Jiao’s back was still grazed by a cut.
Her clothes split, revealing a small patch of pale skin and a chest wrap tightly binding her front.
Mu Qingchen was slightly taken aback, blinded by the brightness of that small patch of skin, and he couldn’t immediately process the significance of the strip of cloth wrapped around Gu Jiao.
He turned away, and his mind buzzed.
Xiao Jingkong hadn’t seen Mu Qingchen outside the door; he thought only Gu Jiao had returned and was about to call Jiaojiao, but Gu Jiao lifted a finger to his lips, gently placing it on his small mouth.
Mu Qingchen wanted to turn back, but for some reason, he held back. He clenched the long sword in his hand and said in a low voice, “I will find out the truth and gather evidence. If it really is you, then I will show no mercy!”
With that, he gripped his sword and walked resolutely into the night.
Gu Jiao closed the Courtyard door, shielded her back from Xiao Jingkong so that the little guy wouldn’t get worried.
Xiao Jingkong tilted his head, “Jiaojiao, who was outside just now? I didn’t quite catch what he said.”
“It’s nothing, just a classmate who walked me home,” Gu Jiao touched his little head, “What brought you here?”
“The Academy is on holiday, and your brother-in-law brought me here!” Xiao Jingkong said.
Gu Jiao asked, “Is your brother-in-law here too?”
Xiao Jingkong shook his head, spreading his hands, “He was here at noon, but he’s gone out now. He said he’d come to pick me up tomorrow, or Brother Chengfeng will.”
