Chapter 1432: 699 Magical Horse King (Second Update) Chapter 1432: 699 Magical Horse King (Second Update) At the hour of si, a light rain fell over Shengdu.

Old Master Meng took his unruly disciple to take shelter from the rain in a pavilion inside the National Master Hall, located near the main entrance. If Gu Jiao were to come out, she would see them at a glance.

The disciples of the National Master Hall served tea and snacks.

Old Master Meng quietly sat down to enjoy his tea.

Geng Yuehua was not so fortunate, having just caused a big disaster. He was currently standing obediently beside Old Master Meng, like a large quail that had done something wrong.

It’s just that everyone, except for Gu Jiao, who did not regard the old gentleman as a chess saint, especially those from the Chess House, invariably incurred the old gentleman’s displeasure.

The old gentleman had a bad temper, was easily angered, and was critical and unreasonable. He had frequently turned his disciples out of doors for trivial reasons. Geng Yuehua was actually not the first to be apprenticed to Old Master Meng, but he was the only one who stayed.

That’s how he had become the senior disciple.

Old Master Meng had such confidence because, firstly, he was an honored guest of the National Master Hall; secondly, he was greatly esteemed by the sovereign; thirdly, he was a man who regarded fame and profit with indifference and neither clung to life nor feared death.

He lived each day as it came and felt no distress at the prospect of death.

Without vulnerabilities or ambitions, he naturally feared nothing.

Old Master Meng had just finished a cup of tea when Geng Yuehua hurriedly filled it up and said with an awkward smile, “Teacher, where have you been these days? I’ve been looking for you everywhere and couldn’t find any news about you. Your coachman has also returned to the countryside, and I can’t find him either.”

The coachman had been given leave by Old Master Meng so that the folks from the Chess House would not discover his whereabouts and disturb him.

Old Master Meng grunted.

He was not in the mood to deal with this rebellious disciple at the moment.

What was he thinking to get involved with someone of ill intent?

Don’t say that he was too old to quarrel with a young girl.

Was this just a petty quarrel? They had bullied his disciple, and the fact that he had not struck them down with a cane was already a sign of his mercy.

That’s right– from today on, the child was his disciple.

He wouldn’t allow her to shirk the responsibility.

Geng Yuehua asked tentatively, “Teacher, what is going on with the little junior brother? Where did you find him? Have you been with him recently? Miao Ruoxin said he is from a foreign nation. Which country is he from? Is he from Zhao Country?”

Since Old Master Meng came from Zhao Country, Geng Yuehua naturally assumed that if he were to take a disciple, he would prefer someone from Zhao.

Old Master Meng coldly snorted, “You have time to inquire about this, but no time to clean your own eyes?”

Geng Yuehua said softly, “Teacher, I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have given our Chess Club invitation to Miao Ruoxin.”

Old Master Meng’s face showed he wished he could cleave his disciple in two.

Geng Yuehua shrank his neck, “I also shouldn’t have personally escorted her to the National Master Hall.”

Old Master Meng still looked as though he wished he could cleave him in two.

Geng Yuehua broke into a cold sweat. Where did he still get it wrong?

Give me a sign here!

Wiping the sweat from his brow, Geng Yuehua said, “I–I–I just shouldn’t have been on friendly terms with her!”

Old Master Meng continued to drink his tea.

Geng Yuehua let out a long sigh of relief.

Goodness, he finally guessed right.

Looking towards the interior of the National Master Hall, Geng Yuehua asked curiously, “What is the little junior brother doing with the National Master? Why hasn’t he come out yet?”

Speak of Cao Cao, and Cao Cao arrives.

Gu Jiao approached from the other end of the road, accompanied by Ya He.

Old Master Meng stood up and stepped out of the pavilion, and Geng Yuehua quickly followed. As they descended the steps, he stretched out his hand to support him, “Teacher, be careful!”

The four of them met on the main path outside the main gate of the National Master Hall.

Ya He bowed and greeted, “Old Master Meng.”

Old Master Meng nodded slightly and, looking at Gu Jiao beside Ya He, asked, “How did it go?”

Gu Jiao replied, “It went smoothly.”

Old Master Meng’s eyebrows twitched, his eyes fierce, “Then how soon can–”
Gu Jiao said, “As long as Ayan’s physical condition allows, anytime is fine.”

Geng Yuehua was utterly confused. What kind of riddles were the teacher and the little junior brother speaking in? He couldn’t understand a single word.

Old Master Meng stroked his beard, “Good, very good. The trip wasn’t in vain; let’s head back.”

“Teacher, are you returning to the Chess House or–ow!” Geng Yuehua was in mid-sentence when a sharp pain shot through his right instep, and he bit his finger in agony.

Old Master Meng withdrew his foot as if nothing had happened and, swinging his old arm and moving with his frail gait, began to run forward with no elegance: “Ah, I promised Yanyan to play chess with him today! Must hurry back! Must hurry!”

Geng Yuehua: “…”

Gu Jiao: “…”

Old Master Meng showed the energy of his younger days and quickly headed towards the alley on the right side of the National Master Hall, where the carriage was parked.

However, when Old Master Meng arrived there, he encountered a serious problem–the horse, Mama, was gone!

The reins of Mama had originally been tied to a post, but now only the rope was seen.

Old Master Meng stood there thunderstruck, “This is the territory of the National Master Hall–who would dare to steal a horse tied up here! Did anyone see anything?”

The disciple nearby heard Master Meng’s voice and came over to say, “I haven’t seen anything.”

If there had been any suspicious people lurking about, they would surely have been detected by the patrolling guards.

Therefore, there was only one possibility, Mama had run away on her own.

Usually when Mama was out pulling the cart, she liked to run around, but no matter where she ran off to, as long as she had her fun she would always pull the cart back, so Gu Jiao generally let her be unless she was in a hurry.

However, if the cart was parked somewhere, Gu Jiao didn’t allow Mama to run off.

She had to watch over the cart!

Gu Jiao touched her chin in a puzzled way, “Did she see something?”

Master Meng thought of Mama’s usually listless demeanor and suddenly his face changed, “Could that silly horse have been lured away by someone?”

Down a quiet and empty street, Mama opened her large mouth wide, straining as she chased after the person and horse ahead.

She had originally been lazing around in the alley, almost dozing off, when suddenly a shadow flashed by her in a whoosh, stirring up her mane!

Mama had never seen such a swift horse and was immediately so excited that she shook off sleepiness, shook off the carriage yoke, bit through the reins, and chased after it with a huff.

Although Mama was only two and a half years old, her speed was faster than that of most adult horses. She strained to catch up but couldn’t do so with ease.

Undeterred, she chased for several streets.

The tall and powerful horse stopped in front of a residence.

The guard stepped forward to greet, “Young Master!”

Young Master Han tugged on the reins and responded heavily, “Open the door.”

The guard opened the great doors of the Han Family Residence, Young Master Han rode in, and then the door slammed shut behind him.

Mama lingered not far away for a moment.

She was a smart horse. When she couldn’t get through the main gate, she circled the residence and found a grassland enclosed with fences.

At the end of the grassland, a row of stables was faintly visible.

Mama backed up dozens of steps, adjusted her speed, took a running start, and, with a burst of energy, leapt clear over!

Her belly grazed the sharp tips of the fence as she flew over!

Mama’s mane exploded!

She was nearly turned into a gelding!

After landing, Mama did not pause and headed straight for the stables.

Just as Young Master Han had handed over his mount to Chu Nan, the Han Family’s horse tamer.

Chu Nan patted the horse’s neck, said in awe, “It’s seventeen years old, yet still so robust.”

Generally, a horse’s seventeenth year is like someone over fifty; their energy and condition usually begin to decline, but this horse seemed to still be at its peak.

Young Master Han said proudly, “This is Hei Fengqi.”

Chu Nan smiled, “That’s right, only Hei Fengqi could do something like this in this world.”

Young Master Han stroked its mane and asked, “Can it still go to the battlefield?”

Chu Nan smiled, “No problem.”

Young Master Han nodded, “Take good care of it, let it fight for a few more years.”

Chu Nan agreed, “I understand.”

After Young Master Han had left, Chu Nan led Hei Fengqi to its very own large stable, for it couldn’t be kept with the other Hei Fengqi horses, or else it might frighten the herd.

Chu Nan got some special feed over for it, sprinkling it with salt crystals.

Hei Fengqi required a lot of energy, and grazing on grass or eating coarse feed wasn’t quite enough; both the special feed and salt were essential.

“Chu Nan! This horse seems to be hurt, come have a look!”

“Coming!”

Chu Nan had no time to take away the feed bucket, poured some water into a trough beside, and went to another stable.

Mama had come over just after Chu Nan had left.

She had originally come to challenge Hei Fengqi to a fight, but the feed looked so tasty that she decisively squeezed in beside Hei Fengqi and began to contest for food.

Hei Fengqi, who was experiencing a food heist for the first time in his life, “???”

Hei Fengqi was furious, its powerful aura overflowing as it raised a front hoof and aimed a slap at Mama!

But Mama was not easy to mess with. She stood erect on her hind legs, brandishing her hooves in retaliation.

Then she was hit quite miserably.

The two-and-a-half-year-old Mama was no match for old Hei Fengqi!

Unable to prevail in the fight, Mama stood up with a carp’s flip, sidled up to Hei Fengqi, rubbing her head against it, nudging it, trying to appease it!

Since Mama wasn’t a full-grown horse, Hei Fengqi didn’t have much wariness against her.

And since Mama was acting so endearing, after being rubbed for a while, Hei Fengqi didn’t hit her anymore when Mama went to eat again.

But just because Hei Fengqi didn’t hit Mama didn’t mean Mama wouldn’t hit it.

After Mama had eaten her fill first, she took advantage of Hei Fengqi eating, kicked out at it, and then ran off!
