Chapter 563: 276 Sheep into the Tiger’s Mouth (Second Update)_2 Chapter 563: 276 Sheep into the Tiger’s Mouth (Second Update)_2 There were two routes from Bishui Alley to the other side, one was to cross through Chang’an Avenue to Baishi Street. This route was busier and was usually taken by Gu Yan and Gu Xiaoshun.
The other route led from Xuanwu Avenue to the end, then onto the official road. It was less populated and closer.
They usually took this route on their way out but avoided it when returning, as it was too dark and they feared accidents.
But to be on the safe side, Gu Jiao and Gu Changqing split up and took each route separately to search.
Gu Changqing headed for the official road, and Gu Jiao went to Baishi Street to look around.
At that time, Gu Yan and Gu Xiaoshun were indeed on Baishi Street. The reason for their delay was that their carriage wheel was broken.
There happened to be a tea house nearby. Liao Quan had the two of them wait there were while he sought help to repair the carriage.
The two, finding it boring to sit in the tea house, spotted someone selling candy hawthorns. Remembering the small monk and his great-aunt loved them, they decided to buy some for them.
“But how can we give them to great-aunt?” Gu Xiaoshun asked.
“Just bring them to her!” Gu Yan said.
“Oh.” Xiaoshun felt the idea feasible, so he ordered a few more bunches. “Great-aunt can’t always get out, so if we buy more, she can have one every day.”
Gu Yan nodded in agreement and reached for his money pouch.
Just at that moment, a young thief rushed over and bumped into Gu Yan, whisking away his money pouch in the process.
Gu Yan touched his waist: “Oh no! My money pouch!”
The two quickly left the candy hawthorns and chased after the thief.
Before they took a few steps, the thief was captured by a towering and imposing figure, to the cheers of the surrounding crowd.
While picking up their money pouch from the thief, Gu Yan suddenly felt two imposing gazes on him.
He raised his head and saw a dashing man seated in a private room on the second floor of a restaurant.
The man, rugged of features and robust in build, was staring directly at Gu Yan.
When their eyes met, the stranger raised his cup and smiled at Gu Yan.
Gu Yan frowned.
He disliked this kind of smile; it made him feel uncomfortable.
“We got it back, let’s go!” Gu Xiaoshun said to Gu Yan.
“Mm.” Gu Yan didn’t pay any more attention to the man and went back to the tea house with Gu Xiaoshun, but Liao Quan hadn’t returned yet.
Not having anything to do while waiting, they were suddenly approached by the young man who had captured the thief. He gave them a salute, saying, “My master wishes to make friends with you two young masters. Would you be so kind as to grant him this favor?”
“Who is your master?” Gu Xiaoshun asked.
“That one there,” the strong-looking young man pointed to the restaurant across the street.
It was the man who had raised his cup and smiled at Gu Yan. Gu Yan frowned and turned his face away.
Gu Xiaoshun took a glance and said, “Don’t know him, don’t want to know him.”
The young man was taken aback, clearly not expecting such a straightforward rejection, “Perhaps you are not aware of my master’s identity, actually, he is actually…”
“Hey! The carriage is fixed!” Gu Xiaoshun’s sharp eyes spotted the carriage outside. Pulling at Gu Yan he said, “Yan, let’s go!”
The two climbed into the carriage without a backward glance, not giving the young man any opportunity to further speak.
They thought they could finally get home safely, but half-way through their journey, the carriage broke down again.
Liao Quan said , “Alright, let’s not repair it for now. I’ll go hire another carriage, you two go home first.”
Just as he finished speaking, a luxurious carriage pulled up next to theirs.
“Is your carriage broken?” A man with a low voice filled with laughter lifted the curtain of the carriage, revealing a rugged face.
Seeing him, Gu Yan was utterly annoyed!
The man hopped off the carriage, squatted down, and checked the broken wheel, saying, “It’s of no use now, I can give you a ride home if you don’t mind. Where do you live?”
“Well…” Liao Quan, hearing this familiar tone, thought to himself – it may be possible that he knows Xiaoshun and Gu Yan?
But upon seeing Gu Yan and Gu Xiaoshun both looked rather unapproachable, he could only politely refuse, “No need to trouble yourself, master, we will return by ourselves.”
“There’s no carriage rental nearby.” The man clapped his hands and laughed, “My little brother is also a student at Qinghe Academy, and since students from the same academy crossing paths seemed quite a coincidence, I thought of giving you a ride. But I also understand your caution. You can go straight and turn east at the third intersection – there’s a carriage rental shop about two miles from there.”
After saying that, the man took his leave.
Liao Quan let out a sigh of relief. He might have misunderstood him earlier, but it didn’t matter now. They could rent a carriage by themselves, so as not to trouble others.
