The World Without My Sister Who Everyone Loved - Chapter 174
Come to think of it, it had been about twenty years since the cries of babies stopped in the Feyenoord imperial family.
There were unexpected accidents, and the original imperials were rare and tended to have a short lifespan.
The former emperor was still loud and active; he was a special case. His younger sister, who was Roderick’s mother, also died before she turned 60-years-old.
Twins in such a family.
Still, the fate of the country depended on the Feyenoord imperial family’s terraformer lineage. The news of the twins transcended differences in positions and views, and became a celebration for everyone.
Even Marquis Septima, the center of the old aristocratic faction, did not object to the imperial declaration that the day when the twins’ existence was first announced to the world should be set as a national holiday.
No, it wasn’t just that he didn’t object, he even raised the opinion that it would be better to also designate the day of the descendents’ birth as a national holiday.
Considering the reaction of Marquis Septima, who flinched at the mention of Sienna’s name and avoided her, was at that level, the reaction of the rest of the people who were kind to her was to the extent that there was no need to explain.
The glory of the empire, the two suns rising in the sky, proof that God was protecting Feyenoord… In the midst of the celebrations pouring in every day, the corner of the former emperor’s mouth was soaring sky-high.
Among the attendants, there was even a joke that if you hear an unknown laugh somewhere in the palace, don’t be surprised because it’s the empress’ laughter.
One day, the empress called Sienna and Ashiel, asking if they had thought of the names of the children who were in their mother’s womb for less than three months. When asked why, she answered that she wanted to give each of the twins one of her privately owned safes and needed their names for the transfer contract.
In such cases, the empress would usually take the initiative, pouring words like cold water, such as, “What is the imperial crown? Can’t I do what I like?” Sienna stared at her strangely quiet mother.
With a serious expression, the empress spoke to Marquis Weeken, who was in charge of managing the palace.
“Can you cut down the decanto tree in the imperial garden? I want to make a crib out of it.”
“What? You want to cut the symbol of the imperial palace and make a cradle?”
“My hands are bored because I have no work to do. I want to try making one myself.”
“Yourself?”
It was such a shock that no one couldn’t even start to think of how to stop her.
However, the stubbornness of the empress was something that even the former emperor could not break. No one dared to oppose when she clicked her tongue and said, “If it is the cradle of our imperial descendents, the material should be at that level.”
Seeing the trees which took years to grow being cut down in vain, Sienna wondered if this fever of celebration and joy was flowing in a somewhat frenzied direction, but there was no way to stop it, so she had no choice but to keep her mouth shut.
And, to be honest, even if she had opened her mouth, everyone would ignore it for they were busy running wild.
Perhaps the fortunate thing was that Ashiel did not join the procession of unbridled horses.
No, on the contrary, Ashiel seemed to be weighed down by worry day by day.
At first, Sienna wondered if the children were unwelcome. But once Ashiel brought a small package that was less than half the size of his palm back from an expedition, she was able to put those worries aside.
Sienna could still remember. He persistently shook her up from her sleep, and the instant she caught sight of his flushed face and felt the cold wind emanating from all over his body, he asked her to open the package.
Waking her up in the middle of the night… she wondered if something like treason had happened. Since the off-region barrier and the confrontation system were quiet, she was curious who started a rebellion this time, but when she asked, he shook his head, indicating it was not that.
“Then why did you wake me…?”
“I have something to show you. Please sit down.”
Why was he bustling like this?
While unwrapping the package he calmly handed over, Sienna let out a low-pitched scream without even realizing it.
A smile spread across Ashiel’s face when he saw his wife’s reaction.
“Eh, what is this?”
“At first, I also wondered what it was.”
A small lump that looked like two chicks sleeping curled up. They were fluffy light yellow baby shoes.
Placing the incomprehensibly small object on her lap, Sienna repeatedly spat out meaningless exclamations such as “Oh my God” and “Oh my.”
She had been receiving such items till she was tired of them, but she had never seen such tiny shoes; they looked like they could be worn by a baby dwarf. She was so stunned that she couldn’t speak.
Seeing his wife reacting the same way as he did, Ashiel couldn’t hold back his laughter.
“Hey, Ashiel. Wait. Try this.”
Uncharacteristically for Sienna, she tapped her husband’s arm with a rough motion, urging him to insert his fingers into the little shoes.
Ashiel, of course, obediently obeyed his wife.
“Is that all? Two? Can’t you put another finger?”
“It’s not going in. It’s too small.”
“Nonsense… Are these really what kids wear? Not for dolls?”
“Real kids wear them.”
“I don’t know if it can be this small. But did you just buy one? There are two kids.”
“Here’s one more.”
As if Ashiel had been waiting for her to say that, he took out another package from his pocket. Even so, his pockets were still bulging. Sienna narrowed her eyes.
“I don’t think this is all.”
“…….”
Ashiel pulled out pieces of cloth smaller than a handkerchief from his pocket. Bibs. As Sienna continued to stare, little handwraps protruded.
“It’s said that when children are born, they scratch their faces with their hands because they can’t handle themselves well…”
“It’s worth knowing.”
Was there anything easier to rob than an excited daddy-to-be’s purse?
The two of them were extremely high in status, so they pretty much never bought things directly with money. They weren’t even the type who really enjoyed that kind of fun.
However, it seemed Ashiel had belatedly realized the fun of shopping. Ah, no wonder it’s said that the late winds were scary.
The amount purchased was too large for a nobleman who had no time, so when Sienna made up her mind and inquired, the answer was that he had emptied one floor of their department store for baby goods.
Now that she thought about it, it was when he started working away from the office that his handsome face started to show concern.
‘It seems like you’re listening to various things about pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting while shopping…’
On another night, Sienna felt strange while sleeping, and when she opened her eyes, she saw Ashiel wearing a serious expression while stroking her belly, which was now a little tight.
“Ashiel…? What the hell are you doing this early in the morning instead of sleeping?”
“I’m looking at your condition.”
“What… can you see?”
“Having a baby makes your stomach full, right?”
“When the sun rises, it will be bright.”
“There are cases where the skin cracks when the stomach is full.”
“…Are you checking to see if my stomach is full or not?”
“Yes.”
“You woke up alone at dawn to…?”
Ashiel nodded his head sullenly. Sienna, who had just entered her third month, couldn’t say anything more.
“Is it so… First of all, it’s too late, so let’s both get some sleep and think about tomorrow.”
Actually, for a pregnant woman, Sienna belonged to the easy side. She just wanted to sleep more and was sometimes out of breath, but it was natural since there were two people in her stomach.
Of course, Sienna was the only one who thought so. Her husband, who was cute in being a crybaby, was often flustered and sad like a person who had lost his country whenever she took a breath in the middle of a sentence.
“But it can’t be helped. Three breaths are sustained through my two nostrils.’
She tried to explain it, but it was to no avail. Thus, she just asked for the hardboiled egg her husband was peeling.
Somehow, the egg was a bit salty, and she thought he must have seasoned it with tears again.
* * *
[Isn’t he a bit stupid?]
Incarnated as a fireball for the first time in a while, Hesaros laughed at Ashiel mercilessly. Sienna made some excuses.
“No, I wouldn’t say he’s being stupid… It’s because he’s afraid.”
[It’s stupid to be so cowardly.]
“If you say so… sure. In Hesaros’ eyes, I look pretty okay, right?”
[Of course! I’m here. I’m taking good care of the babies.]
“…How are you taking good care of the children in my stomach?”
[I told them that I won’t stay still if they make their mother suffer.]
‘Is that caring well? Aren’t you threatening kids whose brains haven’t even developed?’
Unaware that Sienna was thinking such things, Hesaros insisted triumphantly, [You must discipline them even before they’re born!]
Ame: The author tried to inject some humour but having the chapter almost entirely narrated just sends me to tears as it tells me it’s nearing the end ;_; (idk about you, but most of the kr novels I read is like this at the end) I wish there’s more cute moments of the whole cast, but I guess if there’s no problems in the empire, everyone is off and busy fulfilling their duties
